Or a Police State?

Apologies for the Facebook link.

I’m shocked that this is happening, I honestly never saw it getting to this point. This isn’t a group of youths at an illegal rave or freeman of the land types trying to wind the police up, it’s your sister and your dad.

Indefensible imo, I’m sure the collective brain on PH will have some support for their tactics but on first viewing, without anymore information than what’s in the video, I can’t think of any way to defend this lot. Alarming, daunting, shocking.

Sadly not even the first video of this type doing the rounds over the last few days.

I am afraid it seems all too many police officers are relishing their new brown shirts.

It would be interesting to hear the police justification for this.

It's clearly abhorrent, but the reality is that this kind of nonsense happens for a couple of days and then the various police forces revoke any fines without apologising and tone it down.

The same happened back in April with drones, people being told not to use their front gardens etc.

The long term issue is that it further erodes trust between the public and the police. While that's always been an issue with certain groups of people, it's not spreading to demographics who would previously had complete faith in the police service.

It's the same as government really. The endless U turns and hypocrisy means that, like the boy that cried wolf, people start ignoring much of what they say, demand, preach.

It's a shame we didn't get to see how the conversation betweeen the first couple and the police kicked off but given what the officer said about her being seen "walking in the town centre and walking up and down the beach, that's more than once a day" and her response of going to Tescos the police look very bad in this one; ditto the other woman getting cuffed for sitting on a bench? The first lady did make things worse by refusing to give her details but she seemed to have sufficient reason to be very upset and you could see her wiping away her tears.

Appalling really.

First woman was being dealt with under S50 of the Police reform act - for acting in an anti social manner - not sure how that fits in with the Covid regs/guidelines

And here in West Cornwall you would be hard pushed to even suspect anything is going on.

A handful of shops are closed but the traffic and public spaces are as popular as ever.

The beach car park is full of camper vans and there are bikes, kite surfers and walkers on the beach.

It's so weird to watch this video.

I don't understand why the police don't understand. Are they just thick? Unable to read? Leaning difficulties?
They really haven't exactly covered themselves in glory recently.

So a bit of overzealous policing of a nation that really takes the piss in the middle of a pandemic.

I imagine it's not easy for the police to always differentiate between those breaking the rules and those not.

Luckily we have social media to highlight every error of police judgement.
That way we can be shocked at their actions and forget our own selfish en masse rule breaking.

With so many breaking the rules, it must be nigh on impossible to get it right all the time.

Perhaps someone should remind them what happened on the night of the long knives then.
