I am trying to return a faulty product bought via Amazon to a German seller.

They have acknowledged the return, but have said that all shipments to and from Britain are stopped post-Brexit.

This is a minor inconvenience, because the product is quite bulky and I don't want to keep hold of it. But, whilst I haven't had confirmation as such, I rather think that the seller also wants to defer the refund until the goods are returned.

Is anyone else having these problems and is it likely to become a major problem economically?

It is causing issues now with customs and taxes added at the point of delivery going both ways. I run a very small eBay business and am in an online group with others who do a similar thing and there is constant talk about parcels going into and out of the E.U now and buyers complaining about taxes at the point of delivery.

Many have just given up sending into the E.U at the moment, I am still using eBay's GSP system but sales into the E.U have dropped off a cliff at the moment because the cost to ship has rocketed and I didn't generate enoguh sales into the E.U prior to Brexit to make it worth my time trying to look at other options.

thank you very much for your message. We will of course collect the item from you as soon as possible. At this moment shipments to UK and pickups from UK are stopped due to UK exit from European Union. We are doing our best to resume shipments to UK. Soon we should be able to do so. Please let us know the address from where you want to pick up the item and we will let you know.

So the seller didn’t say “who” had stopped the shipments ?

I imagine many EU sellers will be using Brexit as an excuse for a while.

I live in Austria, shipments via normal post aren’t happening/ very difficult. Some reports of DHL getting shipments through but with a lot more paperwork at the border.

ETA: I got a letter from the Student Loans Company last week, postmarked from Switzerland...

I’m still shipping to Europe daily, it’s slow but still getting there eventually.
It’s possible their specific courier has stopped operations I guess, but I wouldn’t be able to hazard a guess at who it might be as the 4 we use are all OK.
