I've not seen anything about this (and I did search) - Darwinism at its best although I feel for the shooter, he'll be feeling guilty I'm sure...

BBC News said:
A 20-year-old has been shot dead allegedly taking part in a "prank" robbery being filmed for YouTube.

Witnesses told police Timothy Wilks and a friend had approached a group of people outside a family trampoline park in Nashville, holding large knives.

Mr Wilks was then shot by a 23-year-old, who told police he had had no idea it had been a "prank" and had been acting in self-defence.

Mr Wilks's friend told officers the "prank" had been for a YouTube video.

No-one has been arrested over the death.

It's ok though - He had a concealed weapon permit (!)

The "prank" element may have been thought up after the fact to avoid prosecution by the friend.

Regardless if you approach people holding a large knife for a robbery or a "prank" it might end badly

What’s that saying, play stupid games... how you can think that threatening people with knives is in any way funny or a ‘prank’ is beyond me.

I fking hate America, I used to love it but in the last 10 years it has gone to utter st.

Prank or not, if someone came up to me with a huge knife and I had a concealed weapon legally, I'd use it aswel.

When I read this, I was genuinely surprised that someone could be *that* stupid - Especially where you are allowed to carry a gun.

Given that the shooter more than likely felt threatened by someone with a giant knife, I suspect he'll probably be let off - I can't really see how it could be seen any other way

I don't get this whole "prank" thing. Most of it just seems to be bullying, harassing and humiliating random strangers for YouTube "likes". Presumably if your prank video goes viral you make lots of money?

Agree with others that he will probably be let off. Whole point of concealed carry is to allow to 'draw' and use your weapon if you feel threatened or for self defence, is it not?

He should get off.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tueller_Drill
MythBusters covered the drill in the 2012 episode "Duel Dilemmas". At 20 ft (6.1 m), the gun-wielder was able to shoot the charging knife attacker just as he reached the shooter. At shorter distances the knife wielder was always able to stab prior to being shot.[5]

I doubt Mr smash that like button was more then 20ft away!

Well some people think any criticism of a country different to that on your own passport is racist.

And pretty much everything in America is considered racist now. "You want your coffee HOW?!"

There has been a trend for this type of format over the last few years and as you say, for more 'likes' and 'follows' on insta or whatever. There are examples where it can be genuinely funny but it's going too far now. There are similar channels in the UK too.

I wouldn't wish someone being shot but I do think that for the sheer stupidity and the aspect of humiliating random strangers for no good reason, that natural selection should be applied in some cases.
I guarantee this case won't stop others continuing with this type of thing but if you play with fire you get fire or firepower in this example.

I do feel for him, but what a bloody moron. Some of the “pranks” on YouTube are stupid beyond belief, I remember one a few years ago where he pretended to stab his friend then run off, unsurprisingly he got floored by a cop while shouting “it’s a prank”

Another in some dark car park, pretending to put a body in their boot and when a passer by goes past start chasing them, that’s asking to be shot.

I know a lot of them are staged, but a lot aren’t, the staged ones probably contribute to morons giving it ago and getting shot.

To me these aren’t pranks, they’re being a tt. A prank is wrapping everything on your colleagues desks with sellotape on their day off. His retaliation was changing the keys on my keyboard to read “knob head”
My Dad always told me a joke or prank is only funny if both sides are laughing

Was the shooter really that threatened?

It seems if someone was approaching with a knife and you pull out a gun, and it was a prank, you'd throw the knife down pretty damn quick?

Would be interesting to see the video, because as much as this is a Darwin award, Americans do seem to love shooting stuff.

And someone with a concealed carry permit is probably the exact type person who can't wait for an opportunity to use the gun.
