58 years is a good stretch for a design - although I expect there is little in common between a modern Learjet and the original Lear 23.

Never given this much thought, but what an iconic brand and an iconic design...

They made automotive 8-Track players too. A Learjet player was an option on a new Jensen Interceptor in the 70's.

If only rustproofing had been an option...I much prefer the malevolent looking cv8!!

To be fair - that applies to any 70's vehicle which wasn't made from plastic.

They’ll just have to spend their money on something else. Maybe a new car, or some caviar?

Something a damn sight bigger than a Learjet, I'd imagine.

Money, so they say, is the root of all evil today.

Apart from the slight oddity of killing the product line off when the 75 Liberty only entered service in October, it's basically just Bombardier killing off a brand and product that was almost dead anyway, especially after previous cockups.

They have other small jet brands they sell that are apparently much more profitable, and there's a few years left in supporting and refitting the ones they already sold.

That said Bombardier is obviously struggling as they've been bailing out of all sorts of things to consolidate around a much smaller business. Not a new thing though.

I think the interceptor had an even greater propensity to rust. It didn't rust, it RUSTED...

Hardly, the 75 Liberty is about $10m, which is pocket money where jets are concerned.

At that low end you have stuff like Citations

At the top end you have the Bombardier Global 5500/6500/7500, $40-75m. Arch rival is the Gulfstream G500/600/650/700 which are similar money.

Depending on model you're looking at maybe 8000 mile range and 0.9mach max.

Gulfstreams are characterised by the large oval cabin windows, This is a G700, under testing now if you fancy putting your name down smile

Past that you're looking at a Boeing Business Jet, which is basically a commercial aircraft fitted out differently..

Imagine having the money to be able to run your own private jet. Would be a pretty incredible life. I might struggle a bit with what that meant for my impact on the environment but it's a nice day dream.

Oddly enough, you are both right and wrong. The quote is something like, depending on translation, . . . the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil . . . The difference is hardly subtle. However, the norm is that people generally quote it the way you do, and it makes for a demonstrably wrong statement.

Avarice is the evil, not money itself, and there are certainly evils not based on, nor caused by, money.

If you have enough money and don't give a st about the environment you can use your jet to hop between work and home to dodge the cross city traffic. Ask Elon how well it works.
