Guile image above made me proper lol.
Seems like meteors entering the atmosphere are seemingly more common now, perhaps it's down to the amount of recording devices (dashcams, CCTV, phones etc....)

It was a pretty big bang... I actually walked around the house to see what had fallen over or off the wall. It is strange how your mind tries to rationalize a noise it cannot explain as on failing to find anything that had fallen over I had decided it was something our neighbours had done until I read the reports of it being a meteorite...

I was jet washing the driveway and couldn’t quite work out what had happened, I thought another bloody glass balustrade had shattered!

The rate of meteors entering the atmosphere has been fairly constant for millions of years. These days they are recorded much more frequently than in the past due to the preponderance of cameras - security, CCTV, surveillance, dash-cams and, probably most importantly, specially set up sky-watching cameras deliberately set up to monitor meteors. There are thousands of these around the world now and quite a few dedicated meteor watchers who monitor meteor falls as a hobby.
It was because of the activity of these groups that the landing site of the meteor/fire-ball that was observed at the end of February was located in Gloucerstershire.

NORAD (the US and Canada air defence system) has also been tracking meteors using their high powered radar systems for almost 60 years.

Just shows how we are nothing really imagine if that thing had hit the ground! If it can cause sonic booms from that far away to the point of breaking things and setting off alarms imagine if it actually hit the ground

It spooked my dad in West Dorset. He went outside to see if the garage was still standing. He said that the last time he heard anything that loud, Germany was dropping bombs on him.
