Remember him?

He only managed 12 years out of the 150 he was sentenced to.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56750103

What an end to a family. He died in prison, both his sons are dead, and his brother was imprisoned for 10 years

The widows of his two sons, and the grandchildren, have had to change their names and disappear.

His wife, now aged 76, lives in a tiny one bedroom apartment in Connecticut, and has to declare any purchase larger than $100 to the authorities.

Who was the Manchester guy in the late 80s who was running a Ponzi scheme for small UK investors out of Gibraltar?

Big news in the day, but I cant for the life of me recall his name now.

Will he be mummified and get his own pyramid as a mausoleum, that's the question.

"Mr Madoff had been serving a 150-year sentence ..."

UK could learn a lesson from that vs here is your life sentence oh and out after 10 years.

There's a good podcast series about Madoff which you can get on Spotify. It's called American scandal and worth a listen.

They also made a film about the Madoff scandal called ‘The wizard of lies’, with Madoff played by Robert De Niro. It’s worth a watch.

There was an anglo-indian guy who ran a large-scale ponzi in the UK. Very early 80s. At the time it was the largest ever ponzi in the UK. He was buying a new Roller from Jack Barclay's every other week, bough a yacht or two and lost £ millions of clients money at the casinos of Curzon Street. It never made the headlines and I can't find any trace of it on the interweb... I don't think they managed to extradite him from his bolthole.

History always repeats itself, I wonder who keeps getting investigated by the SEC currently who has billions invested?

Regulators need to be free to do their jobs properly else this will happen again unfortunately.

You sure your not confusing that with the Emil Savundra insurance scam in the 70s?

Joe Lewis (above) was rumoured to have scammed up to £200 million will only serve 32 months.

“After hearing from prosecution and defence His Honour Judge Perrins sentenced Mr Lewis to 8 years imprisonment reduced to 5 years 4 months imprisonment for each of the 19 indictments because of his early guilty plea. Each sentence will run concurrently. The judge also ruled at the half way point Mr Lewis will be released on licence.”
