Can the sea border be moved to St Georges channel so that Ireland is within the UK zone and any EU goods into Ireland have to be checked rather than GB goods into NI?

Man who negotiated and signed a deal to put up “ludicrous barriers” between U.K. and Northern Ireland is now complaining there are “ludicrous barriers” between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

I'm not sure Ireland would want to be separated from the political and economic body it's part of by boarders?

Why would they agree that?

Obviously no one drew Boris a simple enough diagram to point out what would happen when he agreed to the NI protocol, but this stuff was flagged years ago.

Still sad that a sizeable proportion of the daily mail crowd can be wound up by an article blaming those pesky Europeans...

Ireland already has a free movement agreement etc with UK so doesnt it make sense to make that the easy border and put the tricky one between Ireland and France

REMOANER! WE LEFT! GET OVER IT!

ITS THIS KIND OF NEGATIVITY THAT MEANS WE ARE IN THIS POSITION!

Hopefully this will cover it for the inevitable screaming.

The Republic of Ireland would not be willing to have to clear up a mess made by the British.

But why wouldn't they want to make trade with 26 other countries more difficult in order to make trade easier with one?

Aye but if RoI was still part of the UK....

Interestingly, Fine Gael mooted rejoining the Commonwealth and strengthening links with the U.K. this weekend as part of a move towards a re-United Ireland

I’ve always thought that would make sense with the historic links and connections with other commonwealth countries not just the U.K.

I can see how jumping into the CAN,AUS, NZ, U.K. sphere would be highly beneficial for Ireland

Only as a sop to keep the Northern Prods pacified in the event of a reunited Ireland.

Have the border poll and if it goes in favour of reunification, let them keep their Stormont Assembly for local matters ( but with added Donegal, Cavan & Monaghan to restore the original Ulster) subservient to Dublin in a Federation RoI, the whole of them rejoining the Commonwealth.
Something for everyone, everyone's a winner.

Apart from Arlene and her DUPpers. But fk them.

Perhaps the USA would consider reversing the outcome of the War of Independence to become a UK colony once more just to help out with trade arrangements?

Because it's all about us.

How about the USA AND the Republic of Ireland joining the Commonwealth?

Seeing as how a very shouty section of the Irish population regard the term "British Isles" as an attempt to retake RoI, I can imagine they would not be too keen on becoming part of the Commonwealth.

Remember that the one resource every country on Earth has an over-abundance of is stupid people. It never ceases to amaze me that I can spend significant amounts of time in a country and meet nothing but hospitable, well-rounded, considerate and intelligent people, but turn on the news and they're being represented by angry dheads with ridiculous opinions, being cheered on by other angry dheads.

Not for a very, very long time - if ever. I think if you had said that in 2011, many Irish might have been better disposed to that idea. Since Brexit - forget it.
