Bit of a piss boiler. If he cares so much about the land why not treat it nicer? If he wants to build a house with 'Old hardcore and waste' why not simply do up the house he has? If his grandad was such a nice farmer, why not turn the land to farming and grow food that can feed people?
Theres a guy on my street (Who oddly is a great little builder, and I have used him and his family loads of times) who is a mini version. 3 bed semi that is semi derelict with trees growing through the front garden etc. Back and front gardens turned to storing lots of crap, rats living in the back garden etc...
Council have tried to get him to tidy up, and have succesfully stopped him dumping old cars he does not use on the street.
He lives in a housing association opposite side of the green with his wife and kids
Theres a guy next to my mum who owns two houses, one empty and full of junk, the other heading down the path of dereliction, while he has no job and an endless stream of 'no outcome' DIY jobs. Lives alone with his cat and mourns the loss of his mum and dad a few years ago.
All baby boomers... something about that generation and hoarding....

That site is quite close to where I live. It's quite shocking how much crap he has piled up in those woods. Really noticeable in winter when the trees he's left between the clearing and the road lose their leaves. When I'm cycling along the lane you often see 8 wheel tippers full of site rubbish heading to that site (the road doesn't go anywhere else!), obviously he charges them a lot less than they would pay getting rid of the waste by proper means.

Odd the article says that the waste disposal guys are 'taking advantage' of him. Wonder what the deal is there?
They really played up the "simple old man wants to live in peace beside nature" card and tried to blame all the tree fellings on the power network and storms. Funny how all the trees on his land were affected but not the ones on surrounding land.
Probably just easier to take back handers from dodgy construction companies than do a bit of graft to earn a living himself.

My brother used to live around the corner from this guy, they made a program about him.

It's not just hoarders though, there are two houses in my road which have had zero maintenance done in decades and look a bit of a state. The first house is owned by a recluse who apparently likes "to let his garden run free" and the tree has damaged the garden wall. House would be worth £1 million in a decent state.
Another house, a big Victorian detached would be worth around £2 million in decent condition. It looks awful from the outside, I dread to think what the interior looks like.
I just don't understand how these people can live in these conditions, especially when the house is potentially worth millions.

I also live nearby (about a mile away) and it's just awful. The house is also becoming a ruin.Edited by lufbramatt on Wednesday 21st April 09:23

If my numbers ever came up on lotto i would like to buy a rundown old mansion and do it up inside with the finest high tech and outrageous decor.bit of a munsters/batcave kind of thing, hidden entrance via a cave etc.

Is the house associated with the land the one on Harp Farm Road, opposite the junction with Bell lane? from the article it sounds like he's living in a portacabin in the clearing/rubbish tip site.lufbramatt said:
