Haven't seen another thread on this yet. Hell of a hole in the windscreen, it's a bit vague if it was something thrown or thrown up but it was a big object whatever it was

According to a Green Line twitter feed it was an object dropped/thrown.

Tragic and unnessary waste of life on the 22nd anniversary of a fiend of mine that was killed by a speeding van driver that deliberately drove into him while doing his job.

There are some real, utter scum on this planet.

That is one hell of a hole. Hopefully they didn’t know much about it

Jesus. What a waste.

The poster above is right, there are some utter scumbags that we unfortunately have to share this world with.

A couple of years back some teens threw a brick at my wife’s car while she was driving. Perhaps it’s understandable when you think that half the population has an IQ less than 100.....

Terribly sad and may they rest in peace and a speedy recovery to the injured paramedic, a horrendous thing to witness

As I understand it there are no reports of this being a deliberate act as yet

The location is pretty rural, there are no over bridges and it happened at 9am

It may well be that it is a tragic accident with a piece of road debris .. they can be propelled at pretty high speeds and one would assume the ambulance was motoring on

I’ve seen some pretty spectacular damage and sadly serious injuries over the years from debris

I’m sure the forensic collision investigation will be very thorough

Once again RIP

I had a wheel nut join me in the car via the front windscreen once, it was like an explosion and came right through the glass and ended up in the back seats.

Missed me but if it had hit it would have been pretty bad I imagine. Lots of force for something quite small.

That ambulance screen hole looks large. Horrible thing to happen.

Agree. Can't believe this is a malicious act - rural location early in the morning, so the scrote factor is low. The windscreen damage seems incompatible with debris flicked up from road height, looks more like high velocity from above.

A bit speculative, but could any passing aircraft be missing any bits ??

Once again, above all, RIP.

I’d imagine they have whatever the item was/is

It shouldn’t be too difficult to identify it and reconstruct the event

Could it be a cat's eye that was loose on the road? Rock caught between a pair of lorry wheels then flung off? Insecure load on a lorry like rubble or something?
I remember hearing a DJ in the 90s was killed by a loose cat's eye flung up by a car in front - complete freak accident.

I must admit though when I read the early reports of "Ambulance" "West Midlands" "Object through windscreen" I immediately thought scrotes but that doesn't seem to be the case in this instance

5 years ago I had a half a brick come though the windscreen on the passenger side while I was on the motorway. I was in a Caddy van.

The brick was flung out from between the dual wheels on a skip lorry.

I was told by the windscreen replacement guy that this was ‘extremely common’.

He said tippers, cement trucks, skip lorries, builders merchant lorries, etc that go onto building sites often get rocks, bricks, bits of wood, chunks of concrete etc lodged in between the dual wheels, and once the vehicle gets up to full speed on an A road or motorway, the item then gets flung out at some velocity.

Drivers of these kinds of vehicles are supposed to inspect the rear tyres for debris upon leaving sites, but almost never do.

A family member who works for WMAS was told it was a brick blown off the back of a lorry, but that was pretty soon after it happened so could have been speculation - no suggestion at the time that it was malicious. Tragic nonetheless.

Remember years ago, Peter Houseman, the Chelsea footballers young son was killed in a similar incident - a rock thrown up from the carriageway, through the screen and killed him.

Does look that size.
How can you stop bricks being flung up from double wheels?

should have mudflaps to stop it? Remember lorries all used to have close fitting flaps that stopped all the spray..

As mentioned twin back wheel trucks are supposed to be inspected for trapped debris before leaving site...but time is money?

The sort of folks who throw things from bridges are unexplainable...they are rarely caught though and often let off lightly because they have "social problems"

Trouble is cat eyes have changed over the years, the ones likely to do damage are a lot rarer now, they're generally stuck to the road surface or installed in small indents as apose to the large metal types that used to come lose

I’ve had that and it made a similar mark to that on the ambulance.
It was a bit bigger than a golf ball almost through laminate, and a big patch the size of a football all around it smashed to white.

Fortunately didn’t get through and hit my wife as it was essentially heading for her face.
Very grateful for the very steeply raked windscreen!
