I did check this wasn't a delayed April fools gag, but the FA have indeed replaced the three lions logo with:

- a lion
- a lioness
- a cub (sex not known)

It's all slightly irrelevant to me, as how do we know that the sex assigned at birth to these animals corresponds to the gender they relate to?

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/fa-engla...

Whichever brand consultant pedalled this nonsense to the FA deserves applause though...very creative.

I read this on facebook yesterday and despite some googling couldn't find any confirmation so assumed it was a joke.

It would appear not.

Doesn't help that the 'lion's appear to have been drawn by a four year old.

Reads like they've replaced it for a grass roots initiative to involve more people in football so the three lions logo is NOT going anywhere so far as the national game logo?

In that context it doesn't seem a big deal.

Looks allright to me.

What about the French footy team now?

They've got a real quandary on their hands. A little bantie? A hen? A chick?

A new logo is all well and good, but there are a lot of local clubs really struggling for funds at the moment.

I don't really like football, but my kids do, the eldest is in the local club, and the youngest will be from September.

The club is really struggling for funds. As I understand it their three main sources of income, not sure of the order, are:
  • Subs from the players. (We've still paid for our eldest. because we're fortunate that we can, but a lot of parents are either struggling or don't want to pay the full year when there has been significantly reduced training and games due to Covid.)
  • Ticket sales from matches. (They're either not happening or people aren't going to watch.)
  • Bar sales from games and events run in the bar like birthday parties. (Understandably closed / jus starting to re-open.)
The club has been running other fund raising initiatives and dipping into their limited reserves, but it can't go on forever.

A new logo doesn't really help that much with the above issues...

"The crest will not replace the three lions on the national team's shirts"

Give it two years.

Exactly, it should really be a female lion and perhaps a male Panther?

I think they should also add a disabled lion, a mixed race one and an LBQGT one for good measure.

Maybe make it rainbow-coloured and take gay pride in it?

There is that, although it was meant to be a pun based on the fact that they're lions wink

The 18 months won't be for them just to create a logo, that's not an unusual amount of time to create and implement a new brand or a rebrand.
