Shirley, would logic and common sense suggest it would be easier to transport the block in smaller, more manageable sections ?
No wonder the roads are f'ked if you're going to start moving 120 tonnes of concrete on the back of a trailer.
Really does beggar belief
Shame all those engineers & workers didn’t have you around last night to ask before the lift.No wonder the roads are f'ked if you're going to start moving 120 tonnes of concrete on the back of a trailer.

I'm just the one with the logic and common sense, and in five minutes I found this on YouTube:

Not really rocket science is it, if you employ the right people to do a job.

You cannot compare removing a section of the deck with removing one of the beams. The deck has already been removed from the beams at the Leeds bridge, and you cannot exactly cut the beam into manageable pieces without it falling down. Much easier to lift it down whole, and rather than close down a major route while you chop it up, transport it out of the city centre.

Obviously this relies on your trailer not failing.

So does your lack of understanding. No wonder the roads are f'ked if you're going to start moving 120 tonnes of concrete on the back of a trailer.

The way this thread has gone is so typical of most threads nowadays. Antagonistic and aggressive
I blame covid/lockdown for this total lack of patience
It's like a pile on for anyone who dares to offer an innocent, and well intentioned opinion
The bridge removal experts move in and get all aggressive on a poster who has dared to offer an opinion. It's pathetic and it impacts on other people who, i'm sure, decide not to bother contributing because the "experts" will be along shortly to "correct" and humiliate anyone who's dared to contribute.
I live near Leeds and the pot hole situation is ridiculous but i better keep me gob shut for fear of reprisals from far more informed posters. Sad

t all about civil engineering you might think twice about wading in cock sure with your 'common sense' based opinion...? One 120T trailer with its load spread across several axles that likely has 4 wheels per axle will have zero detrimental effect to the surface and base course of the highway. The reason the roads throughout the UK are f
ked is due to constant stat co's upgrading, maintaining or repairing their apparatus, the UK climate which means we have a lot of rain and in winter a lot of sub zero RST's and mainly a lack of investment from the top which doesn't provide sufficient funding for a proper maintenance schedule. Did you have a previous PH existence on which to base your opinion of how things are 'nowadays', or are you just using your whole nine months of experience to give you a sense of profound PistonHead gravitas?I blame covid/lockdown for this total lack of patience

As for the mild bickering on this thread - relax, it's just a few armchair demolition experts and civil engineering anoraks flirting with each other. No cause for alarm.

Yeah, all those engineers who've trained for years should just ask some random bloke off the internet. No wonder the roads are f'ked if you're going to start moving 120 tonnes of concrete on the back of a trailer.
