If I were in government heres a few of mine

Council tax changed to a income tax at local level set at 5% of your after tax take home salary to be paid by every member of a household.

House-prices capped at £250k except for grade 1 and 2 listed properties to be reviewed every 5 years.

A new law so that you have to live, work and have a school placement within a 3 mile radius so that the commute traffic is minimised, Businesses would be encouraged to set up in places were there salary allows staff to live.

What would your be?

1) Abolish elections (as long as I had a decent majority)
2) Have a special lane on motorways which only silver Ford Ranger drivers over 61 could drive in

I think it'd be OK.

Add in universal basic income, enough to cover a £250k house purchase and jobs a goodun.

So I would have to give up my job in construction to work on a farm and home school my kids?

What you are suggesting, is we should all live in densely populated ghettos. Sounds really nice. I'd be interested to know how you would police and pay for these policies. Maybe something like Escape from New York?

How would goods be transported? Would they have to be unloaded and reloaded onto another vehicle at the outer edges of your radius?

Also. I didn't think the pole tax was popular amongst the leftists?

Goods would still be transported as normal, The drivers would all need to live within 3 miles of the yard they operate from, they could still all drive what ever distance they need to get work done.

More smaller companies would need to set up in rural areas so the same type of jobs were available like bring back the smaller village school for your kids.

The OPs proposals are like some sort of 1970s soviet wet dream.....sounds delightful.

Me I would part privatise the NHS with your insurance part of your NI. This would of course be more american and deny some peoole healthcare (who had zero income), but it might stop the NHS being a black hole for funds year after year.

Make Buy to Let illegal.

Have a game show like The Running Man where inmates either die horribly or win their freedom.

1. Resurface every road with smooth, high-quality tarmac. None of this patching rubbish or surface dressing rubbish. I realise this would be expensive, but the funds would be magically made available from the magic money tree. However I wouldn’t allow sub-contractors to do the national resurfacing project, as we know their standard of “work” is disgraceful; all works would be completed in house with a 15 year guarantee.

2. Invest in hundreds of hydrogen filling stations in collaboration with car makers to make hydrogen cars a realistic alternative to BEVs.

3. Install raising bollards at red traffic lights.

4. Install spike strips in the chevron areas of motorway off-slips... anyone caught making a last minute dash for the exit because they weren’t paying attention would end up with flat tyres, unable to continue their journey and therefore unable to continue being a liability to other motorists.

Number one they tried in the 80's but called poll tax. didn't go well.

Number 2 will never happen, market forces determine the price of stuff including houses

Number 3 not a bad idea but where I live there is only farm work within 3 miles, and we can't all do that there isn't enough of it, There are no schools at all, even the nearest shop is over 3 miles away.

I can see that occasionally dumping an uncontrollable hazard across lane 1; might make life more exciting for truckers, but probably not a great idea from the point of road safety.

Interesting question.

I would certainly press on with the seperation of state and religion. Abolishing faith exclusive schools and teaching, favouring an approach that teaches about each religion equally. I can't see any other way to reach a more tolerant and equitable society.

I would look to move the prison system to one of reform rather than just incarceration. Ideally we need to fix the reason people end up in prison and I think greater investment is needed in this. All prisoners are wasting resources and so finding ways to recoup some losses, whether through productivity in prison or when they return to society.

I would look to understand and address the issue of domestic abuse within society, through investment in non gendered services (not just aimed at female victims and male perpetrators). I would want develop educational resources that help young children develop healthy, lasting relationships that enrich lives, not destroy them.

Finally, I would move some of the environmental burden placed on motorists and place this on the fashion and jewellery industries. They contribute huge wastage and promote excessive consumption, for little tangible reason. Investment in green energy is needed, but also investment in localised production that prevents worldwide shipping being necessary.

I am not really qualified in my views, so no doubt there are holes that can be poked in all the above (apart from the first point, I'm clear on that one).

Make stamp duty increase exponentially per second+ house purchased.

Privatise railways, run it at a loss. It’s purpose is to get workers to work not make a profit off them.

Scrap HS2

Give tax breaks to firms who use wfh.

Funding for families who look after elderly relatives rather than putting them in the care of social services - must check they are still alive on a regular basis

All that really means is you are asking people who don't use the trains to pay for them. (which is a bit odd if you think about it)

It’s infrastructure, that’s how it works. Child-free couples pay plenty for funding state schools
