Kingstanding Murder
Discussion
I know it's all speculation which usually isn't helpful but adults and kids being charged with killing a 14 year old kid?
Second man and boy, 14, charged with murder of Dea-John Reid
WTF has happened here

As you say pure speculation at the moment, I will offer drug feud as the reason.
Another young black person with a different surname to his mother, I will further speculate as to a single parent family with no father figure.

Turns out he was racially abused before being chased and stabbed.
I wonder what made you immediately jump to drug feud though.
A terrible thing to happen.
Lots of rumours going about what happened, I think there was a racial element to the attack but it wasn't the main motive.
One thing that I noticed is in a few pictures he is wearing a rolled up full face balaclava and rumours are he was no angel but that's just rumour and conjunction at this time.

There are lots of comments on social media about what happened before the incident but no reason to justify the murder of anyone let alone a kid. I also noticed the balaclava in the first press release which was changed to a different more innocent picture not long after. It actually happened not from me, not looking forward to the vigil on Sunday as there is potential for trouble. Lots of rumours about retaliations being planned to the extent that the police have had to put out a press release about it. Already noticed a large increase in police around the area including foot patrols which I haven't seen around here since I moved here.
Something has to be done about knife crime countrywide as it just seems to be getting worse and worse with the people involved getting younger. Not sure what can be done though. Zero tolerance on carrying knives with "harsh" sentences actually handed out perhaps. More stop and searches perhaps although that will inevitably lead to more issues with the police. One thing for sure is the parents of the kids involved also need some punishment or charge but not sure how you could do that legally.
Someone on one of the Birmingham FB pages, alluded to a previous robbery with a machete, and then revenge situation by the father.
Whatever the reason, for a 14 year old to lose his life at the hands of an adult (allegedly) is insane.
Been sent several videos on whatsapp in the last few days, of kids being filmed wielding huge swords and knives, its absolutely out of control.

I saw that clip from Hyde Park, broad daylight, area packed with people enjoying the weather, and a big group of (presumably) teenagers are chasing each other around with machetes, it's beyond f
ked. Please excuse the rant. Not particularly about this incident but commenting on generalities which lead to this type of incident. I don't know the details behind the Kingstanding murder
The extremely tiresome anti-police narrative is costing lives. The messaging from various factions, including media and politicians that stop and search is a bad thing is costing lives. Reports of multiple gunshots, stabbings, police running towards danger to help people in danger who themselves wouldn't run to the bottom of their garden to help an officer in trouble, yet the claims are that police response is escalating things. Unbelievable.
Stop and search saves lives. Result of a coppers nose stop below. One of these was in driver's waistband. Not even start on failing CJS contribution.

They’re a similar issue in the white population. Why is it relevant, other than you’ve guessed the background and decided that’s hat it’s all about. It’s also the second time you’ve made the lad’s skin colour the focal point of your comment.
Dancing around but scared to say it?
It is not anything like on a similar scale it is a significant issue and feeds directly into the black on black crime we see. Dancing around but scared to say it?
What do you want me to say ?

This guy is collecting weapons and handing them into the police - the haul shown here is frightening https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMeKBm76H/Whatever the reason, for a 14 year old to lose his life at the hands of an adult (allegedly) is insane.

He's been doing it for a few years now, after he was stabbed on two occasions - https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2019/august/faron-paul...
Thread back on track fellas....
Wife works for WM police. She was working from a (now closed) station that held a knife amnesty. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff that was handed in. If this is the case in what is actually considered to be a pretty affluent area then i dread to think what it’s like elsewhere.
As a father of two boys it’s certainly something i worry about (them being on the receiving end of some random teenage t
t with delusions of gangster). i very much doubt my parents had the same concerns when my brother and i were growing up in the 80’s and 90’s.Simple truth is there are simply not the numbers of officers on the ground to deal with whole scale stop and search.

I would not class Kingstanding as an affluent area. Not the worst by a long way, but mid-table at best on a good day.Thread back on track fellas....

Sounds like a revenge thing.
Unfortunately law enforcement (Police, CPS, Courts, Govt) long ago surrendered control of the streets.
Gangs and thuggery are filling the void, without fear of consequence. Occasionally some respond in kind.

Maybe, maybe not. What certain is that we don’t live in a society where The Crips and Bloods control everything and we’re all hiding inside hoping we don’t get hit by a stray bullet like in Boyz n the Hood. That’s what was suggested with the “surrendered control of the streets” hyperbolic nonsense
What was suggested is that successive governments have systematically reduced policing resources where the police service is essentially in response mode (as opposed prevention), Prisons are overcrowded so those that do get caught rarely end up with custodial sentences , those that do don't get enough rehab so recidivism is high. Social services and education are underfunded, so youths from broken families see few better options than crime. That's before we even get started on what crimes are prioritised (nasty twitter comments - but try getting a response to a burglary), resistance to stop and search etc, and whatever the fashionable cause to support is this week.
Rank and file, no, but poor government and leadership has resulted in an environment where those who are so inclined wander the streets, often armed, committing violent offences with little fear of consequence from the Authorities.
And we see the result all too frequently.
Gangs of kids chasing each other through Hyde Park armed with Machetes, stabbings being a common occurrence in all majority cities (rite of passage in some cases), and petty disputes ending in murder.
I'll give you that "surrendered the streets" isn't a concious policy decision, more an unintended consequence - in terms of hyperbole, an exaggeration maybe, but cuts to the point without getting to the detail above.
More importantly how to fix it? A systemic problem needs a systemic solution.
