The liberal democrats last night trounced the Conservatives in the blue wall home counties.

Ok, so turnout was 52% rather than in the 70s, so perhaps a lot of Tory voters stayed away.

And I recall the mid term blues effect meant by election's often got used to kick the incumbent government.

One thing that struck me from the article though: the Breakthrough party were very upbeat about coming 6th after 6 months (out of 8)...but the bottom 4 parties barely had 1000 votes between them, and Labour came in at 4th with only 644, and greens 3rd with 1,488.

So it seems lib Dems have completely hovered up the opposition votes.

I guess time will tell if this is a new shift in UK politics, or just a large protest vote against Boris and HS2 (which is being built nearby)
