I wouldn't classify that as 'hitting the headlines'.

Mind you, your title is clickbaity. You just needed to change it to 'This one weird neighbourhood dispute hits the headlines' tongue out

Don't park under it then, they have loads of space ahead and beyond their gates where the car here is parked - https://goo.gl/maps/cTDbVbmHGHEshnRu5

They sound like obstinate old people, probably also shout at people parking in front of their house on the road.

I suspect that there's a lot more to the story than has been reported though. That's quite an old tree and it's only a problem *this* year....

Maybe have more than one car?

Who knows.

They will be both likely be as bad as each other.

That’s exactly the sort of thing I’d do! If i was the aggrieved I’d also spend some time trimming the half side nicely, encouraging some healthy re-growth, and sculpting a comedy topiary face into it.

Nice one, so rather than having to deal with bird poo "dirtying his side of the divide", he now has a utterly ridiculous looking tree to contend with. Birds don't nest all year round either.

I'm also quite surprised a tree surgeon happily accepted that work.

They did it themselves. Thats why it looks so bad.

Question for the legal eagles here - what happens if the tree dies as a result of this action?

It was on the news this morning.

Seems a very odd place to plant a tree though. Obvious it was going to seriously overhang the neighbours.

While not condoning the pruning, planting large trees on the boundary between small gardens is a bit selfish. One of the first things I did in our current house was cut down a tree in my garden at the boundary which shaded my neighbor's patio.

I wouldn't be happy if I got bird shift on my car every night. Though the suggestion by the tree owner of netting looked like the answer though. It wasn't a huge tree and looks worse now than before.

Bet the neighbour feels like he has ‘won’ despite the tree looking stupid. If it was my tree I’d be planting more! Tree is unlikely to die but won’t really regrow back. Dick move really.
Tree surgeon should be embarrassed. What happens if it blows over as this work has undoubtably made the tree unstable.

"Tree surgeon" these days oftens means two 'lads' with a tipper transit, a ladder and a chainsaw.

I don't think a proper tree surgeon would cut back a tree in nesting season either, unless they are certain there weren't wild nesting birds other than pigeons etc in there

The article clearly states that a tree surgeon did the work.

Won't the tree prioritise growth where the most sunlight is? The pic shows the shadow on the good side.

At least the neighbours are old and will probably be dead by the time it needs another trim

The daily mail article I read just says they took it upon themselves to cut it. I dint read the Aol article as I had alrwady read about it.
