A group of people have assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moïse in his home, rumours abound at this point with talk of mercenaries pretending to be DEA agents.

I could understand it if it was a group of revolutionaries - but foreign mercenaries, with seemingly no plan (or a plan that failed) to escape? How much money would you need to be paid for a one way trip to a life sentence or worse!

Or maybe they were misled (hi - kill this bloke for us, and while you are doing that we'll take over the rest of the country and let you get away)

It's one thing to slaughter some prominent businessman, quite another to kill the leader of a country, even if the country's a basket case.

Even if you have lots of expensive webbing and a torch on the end of your expensive pop gun, you're going to struggle when an entire nation comes after you.

It's all very strange, there is a chance it's an internal coup as many felt he was an illegitimate president, but there are also many reasons external players might want him gone.
I doubt we will ever know the real truth.
