Susan Michie, the communist adviser on the sage committee, has the utter gall along with 144 others to lodge a complaint when an interviewer asked her if being a commie informed her views on Covid policy.

"Her current research includes developing methodologies for designing and evaluating theory-based interventions to change behaviour, and advancing scientific knowledge about, and applications of, behaviour change interventions. She leads the Human Behaviour-Change Project funded by the Wellcome Trust."

mmm.

This whole covid thing seems tailor made for her to test some theories on the population.

It is a complete coincidence that a fan of a repressive authoritarian ideology just happens in her (non-scientific) opinion favours repressive authoritarianism.

Her political beliefs have nothing to do with her professional work. She’s not on SAGE or going on TV as a politically or political adviser.

Arguable. The SAGE committee exists to advise govt.

" The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) provides scientific and technical advice to support government decision makers during emergencies."

https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/scient...

It is a reasonable assumption that expert X who belongs to a party with strong beliefs in a particular subject when assessing evidence about 50:50 choices will tend to favour the choice which matches his or her political belief. It is human nature. He or she might not even know they are doing it.

As for not going on TV as a political adviser I would say going on TV and saying the lockdown rules are not tough enough is fairly political.

""In fact, I would say that it's no so much people not sticking to the rules, but it's the rules themselves that are the problem."

I think only Conservative scientists should be allowed to speak about Covid issues.

Yes, agreed. I mean, if the average chap doesn’t believe that only tory aligned scientists have the brainpower to deliver benefits to the population then I simply despair!!

It is rather ironic to see someone in the field of behavioural science, of all things, apparently refuse to acknowledge the possibility that their work may be unconsciously biased by their beliefs and prejudices.

That ended the moment she went on TV to start pushing for more restrictions. At that point, her motivations and conflicts of interest are fair game.

Were the 144 others all communists as well?

You know the Overton window has shifted too far left when people think conservatism is the balancing view to communism.

You and a right wing media website might describe her politics as 'extreme', many others wouldn't.

140-odd complaints doesn't sound like a lot, how did that website even hear about it? Seems like a bit of a non-story to me. I assume she denied there was a link between her political beliefs and any scientific advice given...? Seems fair enough to ask the question and fair enough to deny it.

In what way was she thin-skinned? I don't watch whatever programme it was on.

I'm sure they set up iSAGE just for their own, purely objective, interest, not to have any political impact? Give over.

And the link takes one to a politically partisan, and motivated, website. I'm totally with this guy. 145 complaints. They are taking over.

On a slightly different note, why do they always post the number of complaints? For a start, the number is meaningless without the total viewing figures to compare it with (a disputed 2.3m). Secondly, the only question is whether it was an improper question. If Ofcom only had to count, it'd be a job without possible criticism. Why not stick to how much their house is worth.

I would say complaining about being asked a reasonable question is pretty thin skinned.

Dodge it. Refuse to answer it. But lodge formal complaint? Thin skinned.

Do you recall when asked a reasonable question, (thin skinned) Bozza hid in a fridge?

Start a Boris thread then. Or is anything someone does OK if someone else has done it as well? Did Boris lodge a complaint about someone having the temerity to question him?

Is she embarrassed by being a committe member of the British communist party? What’s to apologise for?
