I treat the term "craft beer" with the same contempt as I do "artisan bread".

It's all just yeast in the end.

Apparently saying "I didn't realise women drank beer" is sexist

And not just a throw away comment.

One of them poses issues if you want to make a sandwich though.

Your telling me a pint and a packet of pork scratchings is not the same as a ham sandwich? No wonder I get funny looks...

Isn't it compulsory to have a beard to drink craft beer? That's going to exclude at least some women.

But in reality, according to beer and travel writer Siobhan Buchanan

Taking some obscure person and leading a national headline on the back of one source?

Typical BBC news.

"The independent craft beer industry is, to many, the epitome of cool. Think young, progressive, modern, tattooed "hipsters"."

laugh

I think many will have a very different opinion of 'cool', to that!

Surprising if that is truly representative.

Of the two small independent brewery tours I have been on, one brewery was set up and led by a woman and in the other, women seemed to be heavily involved. Taproom breweries I have visited in a "professional " beerdrink capacity, also seem to be partly run by women - never even remotely crossed my mind the industry was a bit of a "boys/mens club".

In fact one of OH's female acquaintances actually used to be heavily involved in running quite a large local real ale festival.

A common feature of these types of small independents (at least in Scotland) is that everyone appears happy to collaborate and work with each other - quite refreshing if you excuse the pun.

Maybe this journo was unlucky.

Some real ales or whatever you want to call them are decent, some really nice stouts etc if that’s your thing but in my experience a lot of them are undrinkable toss. Some of the ruby ales are genuinely unpleasant and the pale ales are so hoppy it tastes like a dehydrated tramps piss.

But all our tastes are different so what to you is "dehydrated tramps p!ss". to others is the necter of the gods.

Can I ask a question why have you drunk "dehydrated tramps p!ss"? otherwise, how are you able to make the comparison?

I've had conversations with female beer drinkers.

It mainly consisted of get me a beer
which one?
I don't know, something I'll like.

The other ones were like dwarves, you couldn't tell which sex they were with the beards and pipe smoking
