Has it become apparent that the vaccine hasn't worked
Discussion
Has it become apparent that the vaccine hasn't worked as fully intended?
We were led to believe that it would massively reduce hospitalisations and deaths, which it has done.
We were also told it would dramatically cut down the chance of being infected - with early reports saying even one dose would do this.
We now have 90% of the adult population with one dose and 66% with two, and the spread is just as fast as it was before and we haven't even officially stopped social distancing yet.
50k cases a day, 50 deaths. Last time we were on 50k cases, we were seeing 1200 deaths. This looks promising.
We are rapidly approaching the status of a fully vaccinated country (at 90% which is the best you're ever going to achieve).
What will they do when they still want to lock down a fully vaccinated society? What will the carrot be? A 'booster shot' for the Delta version?
Why would anyone under 40 bother getting vaccined next year, when it clearly doesn't stop the infection rate or spead?
When will the message finally change to 'treat it as flu, you'll probably get it every year, get jabbed if you're vunerable, we cannot stop the spread'?

Who says the vaccine isn’t working?
I’ve see a few hospital reports saying that the vast majority in beds are those that haven’t had a jab.
Could they be the younger
s around my neck of the woods that have never bothered with a mask in the local shops?

No, the vaccine is working.
To be clear - i wanted to add "worked as fully intended" to the title.Read the post.
It seems to have dropped hospitalisations and deaths dramatically.
However it's spreading at a faster rate now, with a 66-90% vaccinated society than it did in Autumn when nobody was vaccinated. This is during a socially distanced, mandated mask, no nightclub, no crowds period.
When are they going to admit there is nothing they can do to stop the spread (other than full lockdowns)?
When will they tell people 'you're going to get covid if you go out. Just get jabbed, that's all we can do'?

Nearly everyone is going to catch it. Every year.

This was always just a big pharma push as I could tell.
About half of the vaccines are making zero money for “Big Pharma”. Many people have made huge sacrifices and worked very hard. To say it’s a “big pharma push” is, frankly, ignorant and an insult to all of the people who have worked incredibly hard. Also we actually aren't that near to a 90% vaccinated population because the government keep referring to the percentage of the adult population, but obviously in terms of spreading any disease children will also play a part.
I'm for the removal of legal restrictions on Monday but in terms of understanding what's going on this ^^ seems quite important.

I have been double vaccinated, I still do not know a single person who has had covid, I have not followed any rules since this began not have my friends (25-35), my mother manages a GP surgery where they have seen a massive 3 deaths from COVID since the pandemic began.
It isn’t ‘spreading’ like wildfire it was already there, we have a better testing system in place to capture any cases, we now know the vast majority of people show zero / light symptoms and using the T&T app are urged to test if alerted.
We just need to get on with it, the Flu pandemic of 89-90 had an appx 600 per 100k population infection rate and appx 26k deaths in a very short period of time, it did not result in a lockdown, no economic impact, no masks and a huge uptake in flu vaccinations.
The media needs to stop reporting on it and just move forward, how many outbreaks were linked to all of the Euro games?

But with every vaccine I have ever taken it is 100% expected that it will stop me getting that disease. Nobody phones into work and says "Not coming in today boss, the doctor says I have a mild case of Polio/TB"Read the post.

I have heard numerous cases of people who had been double jabbed getting Covid, and every report has a different percentage figure for the effectiveness.
If people who are double jabbed and vulnerable still have to shield because they can still potentially get it then what was the point?
I personally think it doesn't work half as well as is being made out and we will soon be in lockdown again.

So you have never had a flu vaccine then? Vaccines are not all the same.Joey Deacon said:

It’s the difference between a sterilising and non-sterilising vaccine. I have heard numerous cases of people who had been double jabbed getting Covid, and every report has a different percentage figure for the effectiveness.

With something like Polio which does not mutate at all, the vaccine is sterilising. You simply don’t get polio, you are immune, the end.
Coronaviruses (like the common cold) mutate all the time. The vaccine is non-sterilising - you’re going to get the disease, but your body is primed to fight it, or something very like it. Thus you can still get Covid, you can still pass on Covid, but its severity is downgraded.
Think of it this way: before the vaccine, Covid was a virus that put a lot of people in hospital and killed some of them. After vaccination, it is a disease that might give you a nasty cold. If you’ve been vaccinated, then stop worrying.

Any data available about those currently dying in hospital, wether they have had 1 jab 2 jab etc?
Of the most important question, whether they are dying “of” or “with” Covid. I suspect a huge number of cases in hospital are there for other reasons, and have been tested and found to have Covid, particularly amongst the vaccinated. Joey Deacon said:

No vaccine has 100% efficacy.
There is a literal ton of data showing infection rates are increasing significantly more in younger (more likely to be unvaccinated groups)

Now, this could be differences in behaviour between age groups. It could be immunity due to vaccine. Could be thats where the tests are done.
But it’s the vaccine.

If all the vaccine has achieved is to turn it from a dangerous disease to a mild and annoying one, they have more than done their job.
I believe that the vaccines have done more than that, by making any infection less likely.
I agree - but we are approaching 90% vaccined and they are suggesting another lockdown.I believe that the vaccines have done more than that, by making any infection less likely.
