When’s the last time one of you heard someone wolf whistle at a female. Last time I can think of is over 15 years ago. Another bullst headline grabber to avoid doing anything actually useful.

Though it seems a hard thing to actually charge someone for (unless you film it happening?) Im with you - anyone that wolf whistles women they dont know and is opposed to this is probably has a 'strange' relationship / view of the opposite sex.

You can oppose a law for a for a fairly minor, if crass, act and still be against the idea wolf whistling. You can hold both views simultaneously.

Is wolf whistling crass? Absolutely, Yes. Should someone deserve to get a criminal record for it? Categorically, no. The punishment doesn't fit the crime. Heavy-handed punishments for minor acts are not the sign of a progressive, liberal society. They are the sign of a backwards, knee-jerk, uncivilised, un-enlightened one.

Wolf whistling is rather old fashioned behaviour, but is a law really needed to prevent it? Apart from anything else, how is a conviction going to be secured, what evidence will be needed to substantiate a complaint? Will CCTV with HD sound recording be mandated at every building site for example? I’m sure there are better things Ms Patel could be spending her time on.

My daughter was at traffic lights when a guy leaned out of a van next to her and wolf-whistled and said, "You can give me a smile, love." She looked across, clocked the driver of the van was on his mobile, and replied, "and you can tell your mate to get off his phone."

That deteriorated fast into, "Why don't you mind your own f***ing business, you bh," at which point the lights changed and she drove off.

Let's be honest here - this is one of those stupid distractions that draws lots of attention while 'fixing' a non problem, while all the actual problems get ignored.

Easy fluff that will never get tested in anger if it even comes into force - I'd assume even trying to draft the legislation to define this properly could get interesting.

Again I'll point out that the dismal performance of Priti means this will likely never actually appear and is likely just a bit of flag waving to distract from her other news events.

The vast majority of women have made it clear, time and time again, that they do not want unsolicited attention or comments from others whilst going about their daily business.

Isn't that already illegal? We need more police enforcing existing law, not inventing new law that won't be enforced either.

Its all rather bizarre. I work in construction & apparently builders up scaffolding are the primary culprits. Thing is, in my 20-odd years experience, I've never actually witnessed wolf whistling on any of our sites. There has been plenty of childish 'banter' in mess rooms at tea break, but I can honestly say I have yet to see any of our staff indulge in such things in public. Maybe we're just more professional than others(????)
