It is becoming more and more apparent that there are eastern actors involved in many of the divisive comments on social media that are intended to divide western cultures and societies.

Ever since much of the world gained access to social media there have been western actors that have used it to "influence" non-western populations in to becoming democratic and feeding their people with suggestions of uprisings against the socialist/communist/dictatorship regimes where ever they may be. The intent being to remove more of the global population away from socialism/communism towards new democracies.

This may have been first seen in the Arab Spring movement, but was definitely used in Ukraine under Obama's term and also other places around the world where the west has difficult relationships with authoritarian regimes.

So the counter move by the Likes of Russia, China and others is simple, do the same back to the west.

So what we see today are large (and by this it is said to be a very large) amount of faked "western" social media accounts, fuelled by BOTs that are using divisive/offensive 'chat' purely for the purpose of attempting to divide western societies. And it seems we in the west are lapping it up! And we are lapping it up in total ignorance of the fact that it is happening.

The division as I've seen on social media, here on PH and other forums is quite simple. There is an agenda in play called "cultural marxism" and it adopts the political tool of "group identity politics", whereby the aim is to divide and place everyone into many groups that have a particular trait or identifiable difference to another group. Those groups are then pitted against each other on a narrative of "inequality" that one is oppressing the other. This is then repeated to include as many groups pitted against each other as possible until you get to a point that it includes just about everyone in society looking at another group and claiming to be oppressed by them.

The aim of this is simple, to break down society based up on fabricated narratives and arguments of inequality. And what system of rule advertises itself to being the utopia of equality? Yes, that's right, its communism, and this is achieved by the stepping stone of socialism.

So as the west attempts to rid the world of communism, the east is trying to rid the world of capitalism and democracies.

As all this is going on at the "top levels" so to speak, we find ourselves as people in the west increasingly arguing with each other in more distasteful ways, using typical British whit, sarcasm, and when that runs out just plain simple ad hominem insults. All the time playing to the east's agenda as they sit back and watch their BOTs automatically do their bidding.

Over to you guys....

In answer to the OP's question: Yes

It is, however, only to be expected and we'd be naïve to presume that it's not happening the other way round too.

Agree.
It is a bit shocking though how many, including myself to an extent being totally honest, that we overly accept social media content as being an accurate representation of society. Increasingly it is becoming much more visible that it isn't. But the worrying thing is if businesses and authorities accept this or not, because seemingly it only takes one complaint in some cases for something to be cancelled, or for a particular agenda to be promoted.

In the world of social media the left have gone all the way to the far-left and in response the right have gone all the way to the far-right. However in the real world only a minority of suckers are voting for hard or far-left/right parties. (its bye bye corbyn on the hard-left, and no shows for likes of the BNP, Britain First, or the Communist Party of Great Britain or the Communist League for example).

So the vast majority of people in the UK at least are centrist, hence Boris's big win at the last election.
We will be able to see if in the future if the East's agenda is working, by how many more people will readily get suckered in to the group identity politics agenda and then display their "oppression" by recording their street riots on the latest i-phones. wink

Ok, serious response. How invested are you in social media? I don’t have a Facebook account, I’m not on Instagram, I have a LinkedIn but it’s mostly me ignoring Ukrainian outsourcers. I do read Twitter but my account is private and I don’t accept followers.

That probably means I’m not typical but I will google your name if I’m interviewing you and I’ll hope I don’t get to see your naked tits (happened).

We do some work in ML and recommendation engines. To an extent you get what you ask for. There’s no doubt that “the right” have been very good at seeding the algorithms. Blame the Russians if you want, it’s probably accurate, but I fully agree that social media is not representative of general opinion. Not least because it’s a rather small subset of society for now.

How influential it can or cannot be in elections is a fair question that should be addressed and I think it’s inevitable that more accountability mechanisms will be applied. As for is the east playing the west, you’re forgetting who invented the game.

Example of how China is tying us in knots:

John Cena (WWF wrestler and fast & furious actor) apologised for referring to Taiwan as a country…without using the offensive term “Taiwan” in said apology.

China steels Billion dollar industry from American university:

I could go on but I won’t.

The Russians, and probably the Chinese, do seem to be encouraging efforts to break up the Western power blocks, namely the USA and the EU.

Some interesting observations from David Packman on the new YouGov poll that put 66% of GOP voters in the southern US states wanting to secede from the Union, which must give Putin a warm inner glow.

I was reading about that only this morning.

Its much more to do with social media feeding you opinions much like your own ad-infinitum, so you just go deeper and deeper into your own silo, rather than outside states interference.

Seriously, just read the comments. It’s basically 100’s of dems saying everyone in the south is poor and dumb and can F off. There’s no discussion, there’s no middle ground, it’s just further polarisation.

It’s why flat earthers are so prevalent. “People who clicked this link also liked this one”. And down the rabbit hole you go.

Listen to "The Grey Zone" podcast, is a very interesting look at the constant war that is happening now between democratic and authoritarian regimes.

Russian bots can pretend to be Dems as much as GOPers - polarisation is the goal.

China and Russia are smelling blood. We have two weak leaders in the UK and US. The EU is a basket case.

The question is, do you inturrupt whilst your enemy is merrily making mistakes?

Wouldn't be a surprise to see China have a pop at Taiwan in the next couple of years.
