Young soccer player to be deported. Priti Patel, over to you
Discussion
Christopher Arundell has only known one home and that's the UK, he was brought here when he was 5 years old. Chris faces imminent deportation to Zimbabwe and is currently being held in a detention centre.

75 MPs have written about Chris (and others from Zim) to Priti Patel asking her to step in but she refuses. Is this really what the British public voted for or want? Should Chris be deported to a country he doesn't know, a country where he has no links with, a country where adults took him from as a small child?

He's 26 and has been in the UK since he was 5. Is it ok to wonder why he hasn't applied for citizenship? Seems daft not to have done that given that the rest of his family have successfully done so. His application would have been nothing more than a paper exercise.
His father kept putting it off as it was expensive. My opinion.. he should stay in the UK.

Indeed. I expect the other posters in this thread who think he should be allowed to stay hadn't bothered to read the article.
I'd quite happily put him on the plane myself. Cheerio.
I read it - he was raised here and our society has responsibility for his actions (and himself), not Zimbabwe. I think it's an absolute disgrace that he's being deported and that it should cost a single penny for him to gain citizenship in the first place.I'd quite happily put him on the plane myself. Cheerio.

I'm fine with deporting violent drug dealers.
And broadly speaking so am I.But I do have a degree of sympathy if he's been here since five and doesn't have citizenship solely because of his father not sorting it.
OP - it's not soccer it is football
And anyway he isn't a footballer, he is someone who failed to be a footballer. At 26 he is years past any chance of success. Shame on the Leftie writers to find this focus point.
But despite his crimes, he should stay. As he came over when 5 so should be considered British (assuming he rarely, if ever went back). If however his passports shows regular trips to his homeland, then perhaps yes.
Also why on earth do we not automatically give the same rights as the parents if they all came over together? Ridiculous that the parents have been granted leave, but kids have to apply individually?

He’s not British, his parents are not British and he has clearly abused the hospitality given to him by Britain
He was sentenced to six years in prison for drug trafficking.. which is a pretty hefty sentence and signifies a serious offence
He’s brought his current situation entirely on himself by his actions and I’d suggest someone trafficking drugs into the U.K. is not someone we want in the U.K.
Tough
Thousands of non British residents who commit serious crimes in the U.K. are deported every year
