laugh

Not sure about the west in general but in the US there is a real convergence of fringe groups that are likely to cause big problems if people don’t start paying attention.

Nowhere close. Still Islamic Fundamentalism I'm afraid, despite what political correctness will have you think.

I think your photo is Sir Andrew Parker.

Google Ken McCallum and it's the chap on the link I posted.

He seems to make pretty clear it's a mix of state, Islamic extremism (MI5's biggest focus) and the risk presented by extreme right-wing terrorism is also a substantial thing.

If it is state sponsored, is it really terrorism? Surely at that stage it is undeclared unconventional warfare. See also TikTok and Murder Hornets /TFHat

Not quite the answer to your question, but related - the centre for the study of existential risk says that what worries them most is the ability of the internet and bioweapons to amplify the effect of an otherwise small group/ individual.

This, but they are desperate to create a boggy man (far right) so they can go "look a squirrel" when Islamic nut jobs do stuff.
Because they know they are the ones partly responsible constantly defending Islam and invited it into the country in the first place. They also don't seem to understand much of the far right is only there because of a reaction to the polices of the left.

I wouldn't want to downplay the threat from any terrorist individuals or groups, but the far-right lack a couple of things: intelligent leaders and state or quasi-state sponsorship. The example quoted in the report was trying to make a 3D printed gun, which tells you that no-one was prepared to give or sell him one. I can think of a couple of countries whose leadership might think it worth shovelling some cash in the direction of the neo-Nazis if they could find one with an IQ higher than that of a small cauliflower, but that might take some finding. I'm more concerned about the way social media is very possibly being manipulated to destabilise Western societies. It's hard to prove and even harder to stop, but the ubiquity of social media in our lives makes it worryingly easy for the bad guys to mess with people's heads. Five minutes on Twitter and you'll be wondering why a 1917-style revolution hasn't happened yet. Someone's stirring these people up with hate and division, I'd bet money on it.

Yes but a threat is about capability plus intent.

If you can't get a gun so you decide to try to make one that to me suggests you're both capable and you have intent.

I'll defer to the head of MI5 that if he thinks they pose a substantial risk they pose a substantial risk.
