Immigration centre changes
Discussion
Daily Mail reports upcoming changes to the current offerings for use by illegal immigrants entering the U.K. The use of hotels will no longer be required and the dispersal of illegal immigrants within the U.K. will also be stopped.
In the place of current arrangements the Government has agreed the setting up of huge ‘holding centres’ which will a accommodate up to 8000 people each. A tender gives details of the accommodation project to potential bidders, detailing its plans for nine regional centres throughout England. The centres will support asylum seekers whilst their claims are being processed for period of up to six months. Each centre will provide basic accommodation in line with statutory obligations according to the Home Office.

The Government will be seeking bids from a wide group of businesses, setting up the new centres and then the maintenance & security aspects. No indication as yet when the new centres will be opening or detail as to where each site will be, other than within England.
The Government are under increasing pressure to be seen to be pro active in actions that comply with statutory obligations but also act to deter those considering entering the U.K. through illegal routes.

Home office tender enquiry.. https://www.find-tender.service.gov.uk/Notice/0195...
It's a good old fashioned outsourcing opportunity to manage, maintain and upgrade the immigration centre estate. I suppose using hotels was becoming somewhat of an image problem for the hotel "brands" that had secured home office contracts.

This .will prompt the ‘ Brittania’ chain of hotels to put forward for planning permission for demolition of their hotel stock. Not much doubt the brownfield sites will make for residential homes planning applications suitably uplifting the value of the land. Seems like good business.
Also the change in the Home Office policy agenda switching to regional centres should perhaps assist the Government seeking to redress the negative effect the current housing situation is having upon a proportion of the electorate.
Maybe the hotels left standing will be refurbished in time for next years ‘staycation’ holidays..
Is it worth me bidding £100k pa to house three of them? I've got a small caravan going spare, a dog for security patrols (OK, he's a basset hound but he has a very deep bark) and more importantly I was at university with Michael Gove although our paths didn't really cross much. I doubt I'd make more of a mess of looking after my three than the usual outsourcing suspects will with the other 7,997.

Not really delivering as a thread this yet.
We need one of the usual half dozen NPE suspects to turn up and preemptively tell us how racist we all are before this can really get going.
I did chuckle when I saw this earlier and thought Cranked Up is brave. We need one of the usual half dozen NPE suspects to turn up and preemptively tell us how racist we all are before this can really get going.
I happen to believe that the UKs problem with asylum seekers is almost entirely down to poor domestic government planning issues NOT the volume. We have the capacity to take more migrants - asylum or even desire just to get here for a better life. I think we should take more, regardless of how the Geneva convention assesses asylum applications. What the government should also be doing is a better job of integration and assistance; but that might be joined up thinking too far.
Rather than putting all these super centres in the UK we should expand our EU based facilities and start the process there preventing the dangerous Channel crossings, even if its more expensive and logistically onerous. The EU is s
tting on these people, we can do a lot better. The danger is these turn into prison camps, they are not. Nor should they be run as. They probably will end up like that as poor government commercial planning throws it out to the lowest tender (or mates), which actually creates exactly the sort of political s
te fest that gives Farages wannabes a leg up.Up the budget for integration and resettlement and be clear why. Rather than then farming migrants into economically less well off regions will always create tensions, get in front of a future problem.
Yeah it's strawman, but it shows limited thinking of BOTH our Govt AND opposition because no one is suggesting it.

Integration? Deeply unfashionable.Up the budget for integration and resettlement and be clear why.
We should support each fresh wave of migration to form their own discrete community and enable them to interact with the state in their own language, and not interact with everyone else.
Maybe lay on a contemporary dance event at the local community centre with a rainbow cock monkey running about, just to waste a few quid and make them feel a bit more welcome.

I’m so pleased it’s appreciated, putting ones head on a WOKE block can have serious ramifications for posters later in PH life
On a more serious note, the Government is making quite a play on its emphasis of the new illegal centres having simple basic amenities for the people waiting to be processed through the system. Not sure what level of basic that actually equates to, presume that means communal to8lets and washrooms aS opposed to the en suite currently provided.
Surely the new centres will not plumb the depths of the refugee holding pens on the Greek Islands.

It’s not only UU, I am the epitome of a racist bigot, apparently, who has the teremity to ask difficult touchy questions. I do find it strange that the evangelists cannot address the question of refugee holding pens on the Greek Islands. Not close enough to home for these people to care I expect, much easier to demonstrate faux outrage when problems are on the doorstep I suppose.

They should use the hotels along the seafront in Blackpool. Or maybe the ones a street back from the seafront, no that would be too cruel...
Some illegal immigrants are being housed in a nice posh hotel in Kensington, just down the road from the home of a well known Royal. Lovely.crankedup5 said:

Is it actually illegal immigrants, or is it actually people with pending or granted asylum claims? In the OP you also mention -

Same question, because I don't think the government has ever had a policy of moving illegal immigrants to dispersal cities. They did do it for those claiming asylum though.Johnnytheboy said:
