If a tow truck is in the process of stealing your car would you jump in it and drive it back off

"Bev, who said she did not wish to give her full name".

This bit made me chuckle.

Is it Beverly by any chance?

I dont know why they need to do that - it's perfectly feasible to write sentences without using a name.
They did same recently about Afghanistan - Ali (not his real name) as if Ali is a rare name.

I bet there's a lot more to this story than mentioned in the article.

Hang on a second, she rescued her car wearing flip flops?

Indeed. I'm no expert on car crime, but do car thieves really use tow trucks? (It's a genuine question, I have no idea. Just seems a bit unlikely).

I do, slightly cynically perhaps, wonder whether she 'foiled' a repossession.

But was happy for her photo to be published on the BBC website.

Well an unidentified car from outside a Slimming World session in Wolverhampton by a ratty tow truck, does not jump out at me as being an out and out car thief.

Rescuing the car, or the fact she was wearing flip-flops whilst doing it?

If the latter, it's not illegal to wear flip-flops whilst driving. Inadvisable, but not illegal.

A partner of mine at work had his McLaren SLR stolen on an enclosed recovery truck

They used to use A frame recovery trucks around here. Reverse up, smash it under the wheels and tear off down the road in under a minute.

I’m pretty sure a broken down E-type was nicked from a lay-by in Belgium in this manner a few years back.

Stands to reason - a bloke apparently going about his business in a hi-vis vest is to all intents and purposes hiding in plain sight. He could probably even successfully explain away a car alarm going off to most people.

I'm going to guess that Bev's car wasn't a MacLaren, but fair enough, thanks.

Many years ago I had a car stolen from my drive, which was missing the distributor. The police said it was likely they just rolled it off the drive and winched it onto a flat bed.

It happened in broad daylight while I was sitting in my living room probably 6ft from the car.

Anyone else unable to watch that type of scene without trying to work out which clips are the stunt double?

My problem with it was wondering why the guy in the International truck wasn't on the brakes as soon as the car came off in front of him...

Looks like the car was being winched up? So how could she just reverse it off? Also, plenty of passers by and not one of them recorded it on their phone...
