Appears a 7.5t Tescos lorry has tried to squeeze under a small bridge under the mainline into Plymouth.

Looking at the damage, this could be out for weeks. Believe trains currently terminating at Newton Abbot (40 minute drive up the road). Not ideal if your onward journey is into Cornwall. Oops.

Haven't been down that way for a few years - is it the curved viaduct a couple of hundred yards south of the station...?

Driver is a complete numpty but could it be a driver who normally delivers your shopping in Sprinters being co-opted into driving bigger stuff as he has pre ‘97 entitlements up to 7.5t?

Either way the driver shortage has just grown by 1.

That location is correct, maybe half a mile from the station. My bad on tonnage, equally I have driven under here in my L2 transit custom and it feels like a squeeze, let alone a truck. Gross negligence really, as its single width you can't just fly through it due to possible on coming traffic.

What on earth was he doing trying to get through there?

I'm no genius, but whenever I drive a big van I'm acutely aware of how tall it is.

The lorry certainly looks "stanced" now.

Keep the lorry there, it's now part of the structure.

Is 'stanced' another word for 'fked'? hehe

Joking aside does the length of the crack in the stonework suggest a knockdown and rebuild job on the bridge?

Three - four day repair max? Ah, no. Not in the UK.
This side of Christmas? Unlikely.

I saw a pic of the rear of the lorry, the road must go up a fair bit as th entrance had more head room.

From that angle I guess the "Thermo King" must have seen it coming and ducked.

How much of the bridge is being supported by the lorry though? Could be a case of drag the lorry out and the whole bridge collapses...

Do Tesco run their own fleet? Surely the outsource to avoid having anything to do with logistics etc?
