I came here to post this, having read it here:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9967701/P...

Not sure why they all become legally binding if they were clearly published in error, but I'm sure the lawyers will have a field day on taxpayers money....

Looks like an IT bod was doing some testing on what they thought was a copy of the live data, but it was actually the live data.

Its par for the course, you have to think stuff up and really, its probably better if its a bit unusual so it stands out, I worked on a Firearms Licensing system for the Police and it had Custard Pie Guns and stuff like that in it in the early stages, some did make it to production in the lookup tables, "Trouser Mauser" being one that springs to mind as remember being asked what one was by a rather naïve licensing clerk.

Reminds me of being told to do a stock system for a local business on our Btec computing course, myself and my partner for the project picked the local sex shop in Stockport, the tutor was most perturbed and told us to change it but we argued that a sex shop would need stock control software like any other business that holds stock, was most amusing, once he had got used to it saying stuff like,

"I dont think its calculating the re order level report correctly, look there are still seven Black Mambas still in stock and they on the report yet there are no Butt plugs in stock and they aren't on the report" biggrin

Just looks like a junior dev having some fun and getting it very wrong.

That cheeky wee fella was brave to assume he had a test environment.

They're the stuff of legend at the places I've worked.

There but for the grace etc.

I've a very vague memory that my last employer's (international auto supplier) product database was migrating and it took only a very short while before someone suggested that the developers/training materials should not have live write access.
Fixed before any harm done.

This from anecdotal coffee-room chat with IT chaps.

Years ago I got a phone call from a manager at another bank, asking if I had seen a particular swift message his dept had sent, I duly looked into it, and replied that, yes swear words in the reference field are not blocked ( was guessing this was the reason for the call, his staffs curiosity got the better of them)!
