Anglo French tension
Discussion
Am I detecting a bit of tension between us and the French? Could it be retribution for their handling and repetitional damage to AstraZeneca?
In the last few days it’s been a cancelled vaccine contract (called out by the French of “smacking of revenge”), then a cable between France and the U.K. being burnt, now the U.K. benefiting to the tune of billions£ at the loss of the French as Australia change direction on submarine order.
Thoughts? Is Boris that competent?

Vaccine Contract was with a firm that makes it in Scotland, so that seems somewhat cutting one's nose off to spite your face if the intent was only to annoy the French (albeit it appears to have done so anyway). In the last few days it’s been a cancelled vaccine contract (called out by the French of “smacking of revenge”), then a cable between France and the U.K. being burnt, now the U.K. benefiting to the tune of billions£ at the loss of the French as Australia change direction on submarine order.

Cable is the interconnector that is used for us to import electricity which means France won't get money from us while we will have to pay lots more money to fire up coal stations, so that's very much a lose-lose for both sides.
That Aus Sub deal is probably going to see most of the money going to the USA so I wouldn't really see it as a win for the UK. France will undoubtedly get paid lots of money for the contract cancellation and won't have to try and shoe-horn diesel engines into a nuclear boat (and with the work supposed to be being done in Australia anyway) so basically getting paid for doing nothing. I'd take that if I was French.
