Worth a thread, I think, a senior Labour politician opening up about what she really thinks of the government.
I’m sure that there are a few here who will be in complete agreement with her, but it seems unlikely to improve her party’s chances of winning an election.
She comes across (not just here) as being of very limited intelligence, being very unpleasant, and yet if being very popular on the left of the party.

Be interesting to see if any action is (or can be) taken.

I can’t really understand, given how many intelligent, educated, driven women there are on the left why they end up with people such as her in prominent positions.
She’s not good for electability, and surely wouldn’t be good for the country if given a serious role in government.
Putting fire in the belly of activists does not necessarily mean popularity with voters.

The government seems to stumble from crisis to crisis and yet somehow remain more popular than a party that wants to only represent yesterdays’s values. By definition supporting minority issues are unlikely to give you a majority vote - only condemn you to the party of opposition.

She's just a brainless class-war idiot, basically like stupid wing of the party who never grow out of their student mindset. For some reason she is held up by some as a beacon of hope because she's "straight talking" and "has come from working class roots" as though that's some qualification which makes you better than someone with a decent education.
Check this article from 2012 when she was a union rep:

Rayner has a warm relationship with the council leaders, but each knows which side they are on. This is obvious when she talks about grievance processes: "There are times when it's one of my members who has acted badly, but even then I blame management – after all, they recruited that person. Management created the mess, so it is up to management to sort it out, with the best possible result for the member I'm representing."

Hooray! another misogynistic lump on from the PH ultras.
Let’s see how many posts refer to gender or accent exactly like they don’t for male politicians..
We get it. You only want Etonians in charge. This makes sense as they are doing such a bang up job.
I'm sorry but I think you are wrong.Let’s see how many posts refer to gender or accent exactly like they don’t for male politicians..

If any MP of any party or gender etc was using defamatory language as Angela Raynor was - it would be quite rightly criticised.
Let's see what happens ......

I desperately want a credible alternative to the current bunch of inept clowns and muppets in government.Let’s see how many posts refer to gender or accent exactly like they don’t for male politicians..

However, Labour have impressively managed to make themselves an even worse option. I cannot imagine any such situation where I'd look at Rayner, Burgon, Abbott, McDonnell etc, etc, etc and think 'Hey, they'd be great at running the country I'll vote for them'.
And the Lib Dems are, well, I don't know what. A total irrelevance.
These are dark days for politics in the UK.

Directly elected as an MP and directly elected by the party membership as Deputy Leader.I can’t really understand, given how many intelligent, educated, driven women there are on the left why they end up with people such as her in prominent positions.

Something clearly resonates with the people who voted for her.

There is a wide range of education between "private schooled educated" and "only thing they did at school was get knocked up behind the bike sheds".Just as there are many working class people more intelligent and knowledgeable than Rayner.
Whilst I applaud where she has managed to get to in life, she epitomises all that is wrong with the Labour Party and cannot hide her vile attitude towards anyone on the opposite benches.
It's people like her that have driven the vitriolic hatred on social media platforms, especially t
tter....towards the Conservatives and their supporters.
Kier Starmer obviously disagrees with the manner in which she has expressed her feelings, but can't even bring himself to say she should apologise...
Labour won't get elected for many years on this form...

Whilst she is undoubtedly very confident, and has done very well despite a very difficult start in life, I do struggle to find her credible as a serious opposition politician/potential cabinet minister.
It's not about her being a woman or "northern", nor is about formal qualifications gained or not between the ages of 16 & 25 -at 41, she has had more than enough time to read, learn and understand useful things. Although not everybody needs to be an identikit politician, she doesnt appear to have dveloped much in the way of "finesse" or "decorum" that might broaden her appeal. She is like a less polished, less smart, version of John Prescott.
There are plenty of people who have experienced a difficult upbringing or were close enough to people who did.
Having said that, the current state of UK politics is dire. Many of the current government appear to be over-confident spivs or psychopaths, with the PM a low calibre chancer.

I've just heard her being talked of on Radio 4 while driving to work as regards the comments she's made about the government. She comes across as monstrously thick, inept, nasty and really rather insecure. She'd unquestionably be very dangerous if let any access to any degree of power.
As to her comments about the government/Boris being racist. She does realise that there are few brown people in the cabinet, surely? In fairly significant positions, too.
She's clearly a deeply unpleasant person.
