Personally have no idea what the motive behind this killing was.

It's always struck me how similar this murder was to the murders of the Drummond family in southern France half a century before

I suspect like the Drummond case, the killer will be a local nutter, who through luck and the
remoteness of the location has left nothing clue-wise and fled without being noticed.

Also the French system of criminal investigation [ see Spiral ] is famously slow and cumbersome.

Looks like more of a professional hit/gangland stuff to me. With the cyclist taken out as an eye witness.
