Tesla battery explodes in Florida

See this video! Didn't see it in the news, apparently happened two days ago.
It looks like a bomb has gone off, scary if this is just the battery exploding....would put me off buying one for sure....

Lithium ion battery technologies are not without their problems, and do sometimes catch fire ( a fire that is very hard to extinguish), but an explosion that causes that much damage? I am unconvince.

Indeed, you can see the back end of the battery pack in the wreckage - looks intact. Perhaps the motor/diff at the rear had an incident, or as above, it was just properly rear-ended.

It looks to me like you can actually see the back of the very much intact battery pack? Looks to me like it’s been hit in the rear quarter and sheered of the rear boot section

Bizarre thread. Black Telsa apparently smashed in two. Another white car with massive frontal damage. On a crossroads. Why would you conclude anything other than the white car T-boning the Tesla at considerable speed?

Battery is still intact, passenger safety cell is still intact (apart from the boot area with the 6th/7th seats). No signs of an explosion.
White car must have been travelling Full Plaid, but it was two years ago so maybe just at Ludicrous Plus...

Its like the "Lithium Mines" that turn out to be something else and other anti EV rhetoric that turns out to be bks, someone I know posted about thousands of French EV's parked up due to bad batteries, a quick google proved it was down to the Parisian authorities cancelling the project.

No particular desire for an EV but don't get how so many feel threatened or emasculated by them that they need to post, or re post bks seemingly

Petrol cars explode daily, immolate occupants, Police clean up not mentioned, EV explodes and its global news, even when it doesn't, as in this case.

Same as autonomous vehicles, one killed someone in California and its much outrage and lobal news, people die daily on US roads and globally getting splattered by human drivers, Police clean up, makes the local paper, everyone shrugs.

FFS, just report facts and truth, not bks, bloody luddites, go and smash a printing press up as well !

Yep, old incident. Seemed to be a collision on the rear quarter right at the weakest spot - because of the falcon wing doors there’s not a lot of roof there, and it’s right behind the battery but before rear subframe so just thin bodyshell and a massive shear force. Obviously no propshaft, etc to keep it together like a conventional SUV either.
