Kenosha - Kyle Rittenhouse trial
Discussion
I thought it was a bit odd that we're a week into the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, the US teenager who killed 2 and wounded another during the Kenosha riots last year, but there's nothing on PH.
Some googling reveals that the 'US Riots' thread is in moderation hell, so I suspect it's either coming out of that pruned down to half a sheet of A4 or not at all.
Either that or the PH search is even worse than thought, and it's the next thread down. If so, sorry.
Regardless, a year later, one week in. Prosecution likely to rest sometime next week, closing arguments the week of the 15th.
Here's a brief recap of the events and the trial so far.

Highlights include:
When prosecutor Thomas Binger suggested it was impossible for McGinnis to know what Rosenbaum was trying to do as he lunged, McGinnis replied, "Well, he said 'f*** you' and he reached for the weapon."
And most interestingly, new infrared footage recorded from overhead by an FBI airplane.
It's going to be interesting to see how this pans out.

and that's the prosecution witness! When prosecutor Thomas Binger suggested it was impossible for McGinnis to know what Rosenbaum was trying to do as he lunged, McGinnis replied, "Well, he said 'f*** you' and he reached for the weapon."
I wouldn't be surprised if the defense just don't bother and let the jury get the inevitable over with! Rittenhouse will be chilling in Cancun before Christmas
As I said on the other thread he is fortunate all of those he shot were white and so they won't be able to racialise the trial.
He should be acquitted on the most serious charges in my view as he was defending local businesses and was then attacked and was defending himself. It was a while since we discussed this but at least one of those he shot was a criminal with a string of convictions. Unsurprisingly violent riots, where people are encouraged to loot and trash local business, attracts these types!

One was released from a psychiatric facility that morning - that's the "f
k you" and lunge for the gun guy. The one who got shot in the arm was carrying a concealed pistol which was loaded. Skateboard guy is, well, skateboard guy. All three were out there looking to immerse themselves fully into the spirit of the riots it would appear.
I can't remember - were any of those three in the group to set fire to the garbage dumpster and wheeled it onto the service station whereupon Rittenhouse helped put the fire out and was attacked?

I think he’ll end up being acquitted but it wouldn’t be the right choice.
He crossed state lines with weapons he wasn’t supposed to have and deliberately went into a volatile situation with them. There should be some consequences.
Neither of those factors justify a homicide conviction, maybe the 'reckless endangering' though. He crossed state lines with weapons he wasn’t supposed to have and deliberately went into a volatile situation with them. There should be some consequences.

Reading thr news article seems like the jury will acquit the serious charges. The lesser endangerment ones might stick.
This is what I think. He'll be acquitted of the 5 felonies and given 9 months for the misdemeanour of the possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18. He may also get a $200 dollar fine for the 8pm curfew stuff but that's sort of irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Some pretty damning evidence shown today from the main prosecution witness, Gaige Grosskreutz.
Unfortunately, it largely seems to have been damning for him.
Seems to have been caught out in a lie about approaching him with a weapon down. Facepalm moment for the prosecution.
Do you have a link. I feel this will not end will when his is most likely acquitted there may be more riots etc. Odd when justice is served people react by destroying their own communities Unfortunately, it largely seems to have been damning for him.

Isn't there some tosh that they can't be described as victims?
Not tosh.Whether or not they are victims of a crime is what this trial is intended to determine.
If they were killed/injured by someone acting in self-defence, they were aggressors, not victims.
It's the same as a person on trial being referred to by name or as 'the accused', because describing them as 'murderer', 'rapist' etc. would be prejudicial.

I think this is the exact situation the founding fathers envisaged when they
enshrined the right for the public to have and to use arms to defend themselves,
their family, their community and their property.
Can't see a jury pissing on that campfire.
Imagine of they just banned guns, imagine how many would live that would have died everyday. 20k last year.
I was thinking as well how much lead in the environment, probably driving the madness like ouroboros.
