China locks up tennis star for sexual assault allegation

Quite the story blowing up.

Chinese tennis star publicly alleges a high ranking government official sexually assaulted her, then she disappears. An 'email' 'from her' is then tweeted by official news outlet saying she is fine and saying the allegation was false, when it is in fact clearly a screen shot of someone typing this out (the cursor is visible).

What will the WTA do? What will the Olympics committee do?

WTA have stated they don't believe the email was from her.

I hope the ATP do take a stand and remove their events. What wold be better is if Winter Olympic atheletes decided to show a little solidarity and not go to China. They won't and I understand why. But its hard to stomache a regime that forces a sports star into a sexual relationship with an old man.

The ATP/WTA should very much remove their events.

You cannot carry on holding events in a country where the authorities have locked up one of your colleagues in such a manner.

China hosts the Winter Olympics next year where representitives of some countries will not be attending due to the Chinese human rights policies, lack of.. I get it that sports men and women spend months, if not years in preparation to compete, but these large sporting events always promote the host country, rightly or wrongly...

Yes because I country known for harvesting organs of dissidents is fairly mild compared to those that are imposing lockdowns because of a contagious virus.

I disagree.

The implication is clear, China's behaviour in censoring, disappearing and continuing to abuse minority human rights is 'fairly mild' compared to the behaviours of Western Democracies such as Australia and Austria.

Unless Jas is prepared to explain precisely what is meant.

And how does that compare to locking up entire nations?

I see somehow others are now throwing in organ trafficking and all sorts, yet I do not believe they have harvested her organs, what was the subject of discussion was a person being locked up. It is difficult to understand how some people have suddenly decided every issue is now in play in such a thread but there we go. I think they must be mask wearers......
