I know, imagine having to release a statement to point this out because the media tried to suggest he said something different. Oh wait, that is not what you meant at all is it.
Why should young males not have good role models?
They should and they do.Why should young males not have good role models?
The Equalizer being played by Queen Latifah and Dr Who being played by Jodie Whittaker doesn't mean that boys don't already have absolutely s
tloads of positive role models to look up to.CheesecakeRunner said:
Name some, it’s surprisingly hard.
And just to help, every superhero needs to be ruled out, because at the core they’re all violent vigilantes.
FWIW, I wholeheartedly agree with the MPs statement above and absolutely think boys and young men need positive male role models both onscreen and in real life.

Or the England football team who acted as role models when they protested against racism at the Euros.
There will be others in TV film and music and I'm out of touch there but I'm sure there are more to choose from than the Krays and Tommy Shelby.
Boys need positive role models but I don't think that Jodie Whittacker as Dr Who and a bad remake of Ghostbusters means there's nobody for young boys to look up to.
Why do role models for boys have to be male? Or vice versa? It's the same as saying that role models have to be the same ethnicity too, I don't really think that has to be the case at all.
There are lots of women who I admire immensely for their work, especially writers. I remember reading books when I was little that had a female protagonist and had no issue with relating to the character or characters.

I like it. Even when they were trying to do good some people booed them. Mostly men, I'd guess.
Quite a few on here.I wonder how many of the ones who said it was definitely right to boo them for protesting against racism also think boys don't have enough positive male role models to look up to.

We’re a generation of men raised by women. I’m wondering if another woman is really the answer we need. There are lots of women who I admire immensely for their work, especially writers.
