Lets hope that the officers involved have good body camera footage of what went down and everything is beyond reproach.
Hope they are getting good help and advice
And if they are not?Hope they are getting good help and advice
t and unforgivable. An investigation could take years and years and end up with inquest after inquest, the officer would be rightly concerned that he could end up going to jail for doing his job. Let's wait what social commentators come out with, trial by media most likely by people who have no idea what they're talking about and will be completely unchallenged. I hope they're getting all the support available, no one goes to work wanting to kill someone. Fingers crossed a swift and concise press release from The Met appears soon. IOPC are famously s
t, I wouldn't let them open a letter let alone an investigation into a police involved shooting. We'll see how many years it takes to find no wrong doing. The Mad Monk said:

I am waiting for more details but we can look forward to this being dissected by the usual suspects and excuses made to explain why this person committed armed robbery and was shot.

Doesn't seem the smartest move.
there isn’t really Doesn't seem the smartest move.
There’s a Diplomatic protection unit (DPG) base there where armed officers are based but they are unlikely to be involved unless caught up in a live incident
The Armed Response Units (ARV) are based elsewhere
As yet we don’t know if it was ARV response crews or a Specialist team from one of the Units such as the Flying Squad .. again based elsewhere

Could well have been a pre-planned operation, unless the firearms officers just happened to be nearby
There’ll certainly be a lot of ARV’s floating around central London, more so than usual I’d imagine with the proximity to Xmas a very quick response to an incident is highly probable unless it was intel led and a pre planned op
I’m going for response to a 999 and an ARV approach to contact and challenge rather than a pre planned over the pavement takedown
But, I don’t know .. that’s just what it looks like to me
It says in the article that the van was stopped 15 minutes later and that they were trying to establish the man's identity to inform his family. That definitely seems more like a reactive ARV deployment. If it was proactive then they would know his identity in the information/intelligence stage of the operation.
Well, I tend to agree with the "a criminal moron is dead, move along nothing to see here" sentiments.
In fact, is bank robbery still even a thing these days? Can't say I've ever heard of one in absolutely years! You've got to be pretty thick or desperate to try something like that in central London in 2021, to be honest.
