Jethro, the Cornish comedian, passed away yesterday after contracting COVID-19.

So sad. He was quite big during the 80's and 90's and often on TV shows. Never saw him live but growing up in Somerset, felt an affinity with him as a lot of his jokes would take the mickey out of West Country folk. Think his stuff gradually ran out of time with the world moving on etc but he was a very funny man and full of laughs.

RIP Jethro. I went out with a Cornish girl in the early 90's. Her family knew most of his routines off by heart.

Loved his comedy, I had tickets for what should have been my first live gig of his, but it was cancelled due to Covid. Very sad.

Saw him live a couple of times when I lived in Devon in the nineties. Once at (I think) his club, and once when he was the speaker at a hunt ball. Got a DVD somewhere I must dig out. He was not PC then, so God knows how he'd go over now.
Very funny, especially tales about his mate Denzil Pemworthy (sp?)

Saw him live a few times, we have a family friend who is very similar to him despite being from Cheshire and living in Scotland most of his life. RIP.

I am sure Denzell Penbirthy will be devastated, not sure what St Peter will make of him.

Amazing eh? I just heard some silly f say I bet he was an anti-vaxxer.

Jethro had been unwell for some time, he cancelled a tour after stumbling on his lines.

Ah, but I bet he caught it off a filthy antivaxxer! That's the narrative now.

RIP

Saw a DVD, or may even have been a video, years ago of his show which was a lot less pc than his tv spots! Had us all in stiches with his 'Train don't stop at...' (can't remember which station but could probably find it online), had us crying by the end of it!! biglaugh

An ex Girlfriend used to rave over him and I used to wonder why someone so popular wasn't on TV much. Then we saw him live. I'm not in any way 'woke' but god he was racist, crap joke after crap joke (that he claimed to have written!) and generally pretty awful as a stand up.He was just about to close his club about then.
I understand comedy is pretty subjective but he made Jim Davidson look woke with some of his jokes and I really find it strange that he was so well thought of.

The crazy thing is, IMO that is a very, very funny story. Amusing, well told & you find yourself immersed in it. Why the train guy had to be a "black bugger", I have no idea, how did it add to the story in any way? He didn't need to put that in but I suppose in those days (and I'm from those days!!), it was different.
