This seems a sad story, guy who runs a shelter for what appears to be ‘problem’ breeds is killed by a dog in his care.
Five kids too, to whom he was the only parent.
Just before Xmas too. Ffs.

Very sad. I hope that his boys get lots and lots of support.

FFS indeed, what a sad story, especially the kids, to have lost mother and father both.

I love my dog to bits...

However there is no place for dangerous breeds at all.

No mention of breed in the article.

Breeds aren't the problem, in my experience.

Not dangerous breeds, dangerous dogs.

My sister was nearly killed by a rescue Malanois, which in hindsight obviously should never have been rehomed.

How come some 'breeds' are banned then, without wanting to start a row and all?

I take the point somewhat, however dogs do not have human emotions, my dog enjoys me being around and feeding her. However if I died and we were locked in together, she'd eat my face.

IMO saying there are not dangerous breeds is like saying not all brown bears are nasty.

No bear is a nasty bear, they're not intelligent enough to be nasty.

Just as my cocker spaniel knows that if she starts it, I'll win.

I'd rather not have something unpredictable living with me, who thought different.

However, nope, no experience of other dogs except spaniels, bloody shame none the less, as this chap obviously was trying to do his best!

Here we go again with the "there are no dangerous breeds" bks.

Let's see what comes out of it shall we. I'd put good money on it being exactly the type of dog we all suspect it is.

Because there are many, many stupid people in the world and some of them make laws.

"was attacked by the large bulldog-type dog"

"Save Our Seized Dogs supports owners whose dogs have been seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, and through breed-specific legislation which bans the ownership of four types of dog in the UK."

That says it all really doesn't it?

But yeah, my cockapoo could be just as dangerous.

Is it the same person around the world then, that just really, really hates the pit bull?

Perhaps just mass hysteria and all that...

Exactly. My family keeps Shelties. I guess one could annoy a person to death with silly barking but I'd hazard a guess it could never kill a person aged over about 4 years.

Awful situation. Those poor kids, losing their mother then their father in such a horrific way.

Short answer is the demographic of who own them.

I’m not disagreeing with most of your original post, but reality is; if you were ‘locked in’ with most meat eaters, including humans, and you died, and there was no other food, you’d probably get eaten! Don’t agree? Look up Uruguayan Flight 571.

Agreed.

Won’t get into the dog breed argument as I’m a fan of a mongrel.

However, my wife and I will never agree on approaching a strange dog. She’d walk up and pet anything whereas I’m always of the scope it out first and get owners permission view.

Horrible story and I don’t believe in there being such a thing as a “bad dog” but a dog’s a dog, not some furry anthropomorphised human.

First thing to do in that situation is identify all the vegetarians.

My 5yo is getting on my nerves today. I'm willing for you to test your hypothesis on him.
