Daszack's name seems to be coming up all the time. He funded gain of function research for bat corona virus's at the wuhan lab and even applied for funding in 2018 with a full description of his method. He published that letter in the lancet smearing the lab leak hypothesis as a conspiracy theory and features in Fauci's emails, who is also doing some next level arse covering by redefining and obfuscation the gain of function description.

There's so much evidence now, books have been authored, presentation written, failed zoonotic origin attempts and the divine intervention of the furin cleavage site on a coronavirus that just so happened to appear in Daszak's research application in 2018.

The truth always comes out, one way or another, people write things down, take pictures, keep reports and paperwork, leak evidence, escape the Chinese muzzle.

I'm surprised if Daszack can even sleep at night. The net is surely closing in.

Having just contracted it myself, I did a bit of reading around on the subject

Approx. 5.3 million deaths, (think that's the right statistic, might just be merkyland)

It just strikes me as odd that there doesn't seem to be any accountability whatsoever

We all have to accept that millions have died and our lives changed forever

So much “evidence” or so much speculation and fabrication?

The lab leak theory might be true but the fact that it is promoted and backed by right wing conspiracy theorists means I am cautious about accepting that position without verifiable independent evidence and support by the scientific community.

Why would Daszack be worried? He didn't personally or deliberately leak the virus did he? Nothing will happen to him, even if was a lab leak. You could maybe put some blame onto some unknown lab technician, if even that was traceable. Gain of function research doesn't appear to be in itself illegal either. It would just look bad if there was US funding involved.

I think the U.S saying nothing speaks volumes. Trump was quick enough to lay the blame at first then nothing more was said.
Australia condemned China early on until they stopped importing all their raw materials. Nobody wants to come out and say it for fear off upsetting them.

HIV was a lab manufactured virus, until it wasn't. Then it was GRID, until it wasn't, then eventually it was a combination of monkey viruses spilling over into humans about 100 years ago. Also not a pandemic, despite mullering way more than everyone's current virus of choice.

It won't be a lab leak, but Chinese absolute defensiness really isn't helping anyone, including them.

hehe

They very quickly stamped on the lab leak theory and now some feel they have to ignore the most likely explanation of where this started.

Did HIV originate a few hundred yards from a laboratory receiving funding to "enhance" a similar virus in the animal kingdom?

The "lab leak" theory is the most plausible explanation given what the laboratory was doing and the supposed origin point of the outbreak.

They comprised an exchange between the American virus--hunting foundation, the EcoHealth Alliance and its funders in the US government. The scientists discussed collecting viruses from bats in eight countries including Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos between 2016 and 2019. But to avoid the complication of signing up local subcontractors to their grants in those countries, they promised to send the samples to a laboratory they already funded. And where was this lab? Wuhan.
Spectator said:
As for that missing furin cleavage site, another leaked document revealed in September by Drastic, a confederation of open-source analysts like Demaneuf, sent shock- waves through the scientific community. Dr Peter Daszak, head of the EcoHealth Alliance, spelled out plans to work with his collaborators in Wuhan and elsewhere to artificially insert novel, rare cleavage sites into novel Sars-like coronaviruses collected in the field, so as to better understand the biological function of cleavage sites. His 2018 request for $14.2 million from the Pentagon to do this was turned down amid uneasiness that it was too risky; but the very fact that he was proposing it was alarming.

Most of the funding for the Wuhan Institute of Virology comes from the Chinese not the American government, after all; so the failure to win the US grant may not have prevented the work being done. More-over, exactly such an experiment had already been done with a different kind of coronavirus by — guess who? — the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Spectator said:
But even finding relevant viruses in Laos still won’t answer the question of how they got loose in Wuhan. And with the continuing failure to find any evidence of infected animals for sale in Chinese markets, the astonishing truth remains this: the outbreak happened in a city with the world’s largest research programme on bat-borne corona-viruses, whose scientists had gone to at least two places where these Sars-CoV-2-like viruses live, and brought them back to Wuhan — and to nowhere else.
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-covid-lab-leak-theory-just-got-even-stronger

Apparently a "conspiracy theory" these days is the most likely explanation of an event, if said likely explanation has been dismissed by the MSM, who must be trusted unquestioningly at all times.

Assuming it was designed in a lab, which I support by the way, what is it designed to do and do governments around the world now know this but aren't telling us?

Could it be that it is designed to paralyse an economy with huge swathes of the population off work sick and health services overrun? The deaths simply being collateral damage.

Because his original funding request was refused and it may turn out that he went ahead anyway.

The conspiracy theory was penned by Daszak and published in the lancet. Then withdrawn 16 months later after his competing interests where known. The lancet editor was dragged over the coals last week and you can listen for yourself, no one is buying it.

It would be ironic if there was a manhunt for this, what must have ultimately been an accident if it was something that escaped from a lab, yet a Global Financial Crisis and over a decade of decimated economies and uncalculable personal losses driven by the simple greed of an industry sector with some very obvious bosses, regulators and policymakers that enabled it... and nothing to see there. A few low ranking sacrificial lambs and many of the architects of the things that triggered the GFC very much still seen a kings and saviours sitting on the piles of cash they managed to come through with.

I don't think the GFC directly killed millions of people and isolated, locked down or cut off entire countries.

The purpose of the work in the lab is to try to predict how viruses could mutate in the future, and thus be ready for future pandemics. It's called gain of function research, as I guess they play around with existing viruses so they gain new functions.

I don't believe the Chinese had a sinister plan to unleash a global pandemic so they could somehow come out on top.

I happen to think they struck gold. It's turned out a little too perfect.
