Attempted murder of a child

A woman has been charged with attempted murder of a child who was injured on Christmas Eve. Details are scant, so not sure if it’s a mother / child issue, or random, or somewhere in between.

This sort of thing has hit the headlines recently with the trials of some parents rightly grabbing headlines and the public consciousness.

Has the bar for charging for murder / attempted murder been lowered, or has something gone wrong in certain parts of society?

Probably neither, children have always been injured or killed by parents….. (assuming that’s what it is in this case of course but the point stands) .

You do however have greater access to news and what’s happening and that can make the numbers appear worse.

You can always trawl through the data and see what the metrics say, adjusting for population growth to give rate of such incidents of course.
