London drug testing
Discussion
This story just popped up in my twitter feed - https://twitter.com/myldn/status/14783624191184527...
I couldn’t see a thread so what are thoughts on the legality of this? I think it’s an outrage.

I think the random nature of the tests is an issue in terms cross contamination as drugs are rife however something needs to be done as there are far too many people that think its fine to support rape, murder, torture, extortion and slavery which of course you are doing every time you snort a line of coke.

So you're saying we should legalize coke?98elise said:
Same as the war on theft, rape, assault etc.
What's needed is decriminalisation and legislation?
Effect on the individual as a result of the crime, vs effect on society as a side effect of the law. What's needed is decriminalisation and legislation?
It would be better to control illegal imports, and produce reasonably priced legal and safe alternatives, with the money used to support addicts.

Please summarise to save me 2 hours. This isn't anything new, a decade ago they did targeted swabs on hands in the rough pubs of the S/E London though they usually involved sniffer dogs as well.
It seems odd that Kahn is allowing people to take Class B drugs with impunity in some boroughs on one hand and yet you have random searches without any grounds by the police on the other.

The same can be said about the fashion industry (clothing in the western high streets made in detention camps by children working 18 hour days) or the indentured labour and violence involved in mining cobalt and rare earths used in electronics that likely powers the thing you composed the message on.Abdul Abulbul Amir said:
No thanks, I dont want to life amongst a society of druggies and the problems that brings. Proper punishments for importing, dealing and using would be better.
As demonstrated by people in prisons all over the world, even harsher punishments are rarely a deterrent for anything.Places that have decriminalised the sale and consumption of drugs have seen things improve, not nose dive into a cesspit.
We, and most other countries, have managed to achieve absolutely nothing in 50 years by criminalising drugs. It is time to take a different approach.

You do understand that you already are living "amongst a society of druggies and the problems that brings"? There is an argument its the criminalisation that causes the problems and an argument that many drugs should be legalised and taxed.

Same here, all this liberal garbage really winds me up.Should be a mandatory minimum 10 years for even the smallest drug offence, life for the second offence or any offence where dealing is involved.
I spent quite some time living in countries where the punishment for drug offences was even more severe than this..... guess what, no drugs and very little other crime either. Who would have though it...a proper harsh deterrent actually works!
