17k once those who died 'with Covid' and those with known severe comorbidity are excluded. Source ONS.
I'm sorry but I don't think that makes it ok. They are still people and a % of those had manageable illness that would not have led to their death in the timeframe. I'd still put "having a party" below 17k deaths in any list too. Plus the fact the number ignores many people who would still be here now.

I'd also say that a fair few of those had to die away from their families who were not allowed to see or be with them. And don't forget those kicked out of hospital to spread COVID through the care homes. Again all due to govt policy and rules. The fact that Johnson and Co wilfully ignored their own rules makes this attention absolutely appropriate.

What about the lives saved by not locking down as some would have preferred this winter?Might cost a few of the red carpet Covid lives, but will save countless others, not to mention the mental health benefits.
PS. to emphasise this point, no one seems to give a s
t for the other 850,000 people to have dies in the last 2 years in the UK, the focus only seems to be those who died after testing positive for Covid.Evercross said:

I think it’s widely accepted that the fairest measure is excess deaths, the U.K. currently has 222 per 100k, France 137, Germany 143. I guess we can all manipulate data and numbers on their own don’t tell the whole story, but you’re very wide of the mark I think. prand said:

Which rule did Johnson ignore? The fact that Johnson and Co wilfully ignored their own rules makes this attention absolutely appropriate.

Let's see what this report reveals. Johnson was also apologising for attending a party during lockdown restrictions last week, though seemed to be heavily influenced by legal advice it was hard to see what was being apologised for.I would also say that he seems to have allowed and encouraged a culture of relaxed socialising under number 10's roof, inappropriate, and possibly illegal given the situation the country was in.
And his support and endorsement of Cummings after he had been caught out in Barnard Castle sent a clear message, that if you had even a half hearted explanation, you could basically do as you pleased.
