Five and a half years for abusing two kids seems very lenient.

Cake and defending it what are you pair on about?

Shockingly lenient I would have said.

BTW I don't think race or political affiliation count for much when deciding whether a paedophile's actions are acceptable or not. And, as this is PH, they are not at all acceptable, just for the avoidance of doubt.

I don't think he should have been tried for 50yo offences unless the evidence is *way* better than the media are reporting, *but* given he was tried and *was* found guilty, on what planet is five years and six months an appropriate sentence for multiple attempted rapes and multiple other offences against multiple victims.

Effectively that's a two year sentence.

ISTR that if the offence is historic, then the sentencing is in accordance with the guidelines that were operating when the offence was committed. Although I may well be wrong...

I'm sure you're right, still seems light.

Amazing how little coverage this is getting. It’s not on the BBC news main page. Seems bizarre that Boris having a drink in a garden is front page news for weeks, Labour peer commits the most disgusting crime and it’s worthy of 1/2 a days coverage.

Not forgetting his two brothers who were (conveniently) not capable of a trial.
One was only 65 ffs.

Yes, they’re racially targeted in suggestions such as yours.

having spent most of the week explaining that a Labour leader in charge of the CPS was in no way responsible for Saville getting off scot free it is hardly surprising that they are ignoring this...
On the other side of the coin it was a Muslim man in the CPS who pursued the Rotherham gangs after 'head office' decided not to...

It was on the front page of the BBC News yesterday that's how I saw he'd been jailed.

As abhorrent as his crimes are I don't know how much national coverage you honestly think it should get.

Surprisingly easy considering white gangs are considered less newsworthy. Not forgetting our more prestigious celebrity networks. I don’t dispute there are Pakistani abusers, but label all Pakistan men as a problem and I’ll call out racism.

Were all the abusers in rotherham not Pakistani/asian then?

It’s a news story about someone who did something horrendous and who was jailed for his crimes. His ethnic background fairly irrelevant, most British peadophiles are probably white men (based on demographic makeup).

Other stories including Partygate and the slow collapse of the Tory party are ongoing hence the increased interest from the media. It’s really not media bias.
