Jokes to be Government approved
Discussion
It would appear that the government want to decide what is funny and what is 'offensive', and choose what you are allowed to listen to by banning those deemed to be the latter.

It would be interesting to know who would get to judge what we can laugh at, and by what criteria.

It wasn’t a ‘shocking comment’ that Jimmy Carr made it was a joke, which he actually explained in the routine.
Now, personally i thought it was a pretty poor joke, and he’s no stewart Lee when it comes to dissecting a joke mid routine but if you go see or choose to watch a Jimmy Car show called ‘His dark material’ I think its obvious what you’re going to get.
And also I wouldn’t want Nadine Dorris deciding on anything, she’s a disgrace.
It’s also pretty ironic that people like her bang on about freedom of speech, when it suits them of course, I thought she was anti-woke? (Whatever that means this week)

Exactly this. I'd quite like to decide for myself what I find funny rather than having government approved jokes fed to me, thanks.
We seem to be on a slippery slope with authoritarianism at the moment, I suspect the government are emboldened by the rush to comply regarding questionable Covid measures and keen to see how far they can push it.

It'll be as surreal as Judges deciding what is pornographic. IIRC, a key factor in classifying porn was the 'angle on the dangle' of the penis!https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/148989782109233...

This has nothing to do with what is funny or not, or what is offensive or not.
It is all about the failure of the legacy propaganda channels. After the internet unleashed a free-for all that frightened the powers that be, a coalescence into a few big online players has pushed content back into the hands of the legacy media - look at YouTube search results for "french protests" now, for instance - it is all mainstream coverage at the top.
But still no-one is watching in great numbers. Lone individuals can still publish and be found. This bill is aimed at that segment.

Much the same.
The last 2 years has shown that authoritarinism is what the people want.
Which is music to any governments ears, and a license to crack on with more of the same.
This is just one of many much more serious things the government is putting into place or proposing to.
Eventually of course, there will be pushback, but by then it will be too late. We will have handed complete control of our lives to the state. Ive only got 20-30 years left, but i dont think its going to be a world i like.

What's really scary is, if this is what Conservatives are like now, what the hell would Labour be like!?
Absolutely Ari.Whenever I look at how badly the people in charge are behaving and whenever I ask myself "why do I let them take the piss out of me on a daily basis?" the answer I always come up with is to persuade myself how fortunate I am because someone else might be worse

I think the most interesting/worrying thing to come out of the Covid situation is how any pushback is likely to be media controlled. You've only got to look at how protest rallies are handled by the mainstream media, you can have thousands of people marching down the middle of London and at best you'll get a footnote about 'a few extremists causing trouble'.The last 2 years has shown that authoritarinism is what the people want.

They've become very very good at controlling The Narrative.
