Sorry to hear about the death of Bamber Gascoigne this morning. He always seemed pleasantly posh on University Challenge (his Wiki entry is like a page out of Debretts or Who's Who, he's descended from Clive of India) and he had none of Paxman's unqualified sneeriness.

Used to watch him on UC back in the day. Always came across as an intelligent sort.
Its his house that is used on the TV program "Ghosts".

Sad news, an academic who became a reluctant TV star but kept his private life very private.

Sad news. I recall him when I was young. It does apprmear that he lived a long, successful and happy life. He was exceptionally good on UC.

Never afraid to rip the mick from himself. His appearance on The Young Ones was excellent.

I liked the bit where he shoved the drill in the virgin otter's face.

Stephen Fry even got to appear on UC twice....

RIP Bambi.

RiP Bamber.

When I was growing up and watching odd bits of University Challenge, I'm not sure when it actually dawned on me that both teams were on the same level and not on top of each other. redface
