Just heard this. What a pity; loved the guy, wrote some brilliant books, though he was pretty critical of us Brits at times. But yeah, helluva fella. RIP

That is tremendously sad. One of the funniest & perceptive writers I have ever enjoyed and astoundingly politically incorrect.

You need to buy Republican Party Reptile if you can for three great articles about motoring;

1.) How To Drive Fast On Drugs While Getting Your Wing- Wang Squeezed And Not Spill Your Drink.

Read that one like it’s Clarkson voice….hmmm… scratchchin

2.) Ferrari Refutes The Decline Of The West.

Everything that sums how great it is to drive a really fast car, really fast.

3.) High Speed Performance Characteristics Of Pick Up Trucks

Simply put, one of the funniest things I have ever read. I can’t remember where I was when first read it but I can remember I was crying with laughter, my chest ached. Genius.

If you can find them, I urge you to read them. They are a must for anyone who loves driving and cars and remembers a time when PC was what you called a policeman. I’m sure Jeremy would agree…. wink

Spot on. What a loss this is. Terribly sad news. I shall miss his writings and outlook on life.

Rest in peace. A brilliant wordsmith, who I'm sure I heard was the most quoted American writer after Mark Twain, and a great petrol head too.

The pick up truck article is great. Oversteer, understeer or 'no-steer' dependent upon alcohol intake!

I loved his book ‘Holidays in hell’ - I laughed all the way through it. On his travels in early ‘80’s Beirut….

In the bay you could see jet-skiers zooming back and forth. “Don’t those guys worry about the snipers?” I asked the barman. “Not at all,” he replied “they only have machine guns, which are not very accurate “

I like his reply when asked how he felt about being called a Nazi.

'Nobody ever fantasised about being tied up and ravished by someone dressed as a liberal.'

Just noticed this thread. Sad news. This quote made me smile;

“One of his more memorable lines was that Democrats promise that government will make you "smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn", while Republicans say that government doesn't work - then get elected and prove it.”
