This is what I really really hate about social media.
Try the person in public - when they are charged.
But not when found guilty.
But this - trial but public media - is sickening.
Some years ago - I heard a radio broadcast of one individual who was targeted - the police spend 12-15 persons to determine his guilt - and none to determine if he was innocent.
It haunted me.
Even take the words..."Everything you say will be taken down in evidence and used against you...."
Used against me????
Is there anything that says "...used to prove you innocent."
Now I have absolutely no idea who our protragonist is.
Is the worst person lived or otherwise.
I have no idea- never heard for him.
But we must have some kind of filter to let those who are accused to defend them with public bias.
Can we have some kind of filter to not allow person charged/ accused - but not yet found guilty / not guilt
It has ruined lives... eg Cliff Richard, Dave Lee Travis.
Not that it minds much - we get to post/ defend bile on them whether true or not.
Something is wrong with our justice system when we the charged/ accused are named - and there is an internet of outrage - and after months/ years of trial - it is found that the judge says "and you can leave here without a stain on your character"
Our protraganost may well be worthy of the death penalty.
Or may be not.
But this thread should just simply die - and let the courts do their stuff.
Once a verdict is reached - fill your boots.

The police gather facts. That’s all. There is an issue with culture in some parts of the police, but their job is to gather facts. It haunted me.

AhhhBut seriously, all allegations need to be properly investigated. Conviction rates for rape are shockingly bad, despite years of campaigning, so I hardly think evidence is there that the system is "rigged" towards women.

If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you? With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me?

If at the end if the day, it comes down to his word against hers, and neither are credible witnesses, the jury are forced to consider the impact of sending someone to prision who is in fact not guilty. And they have to balance that against the impact on the woman of seeing her attacker go free.
But at least it got to court.
I only wished someone could have explained our decision to both parties.
