Stolen / cloned cars in the UK and the police..... RANT...
Discussion
My friend lives in the US and he says, when a car is stolen, cloned and then recovered, the police remove all the cloned plates, vins..etc and put it back to its originals before reselling on.
Here in the UK they don't....
Why is that?
I've bought 2 previously stolen and recovered cars from auctions now, both sold off by insurance companies. Both have the cloned cars number plates still on it and the wrong vins on them. Thankfully, i've managed to change vins back to their original state without much effort as the thieves only cover the vins with copy vin stickers. I've not had one yet where the vin has been restamped on the chassis but, I have called some main dealers and DVLA to figure out how this would be done and neither have a clue. I think it should be a job the police undertake.

So let me get this right, you want the police, an underfunded and over stretched public organisation, to invest in employing staff, training and equipment, so they can recreate the vehicle identification marks on a vehicle that is the property of a third party for profit organisation (the insurance company) before they sell the vehicle so that you, a private/business buyer purchasing the vehicle at a significant discount over the retail value of said vehicle, don't have to use any of those substantial savings on getting it fit for road use again?
Would you like the Police to provide a service on the vehicles you're purchasing as well? Maybe give a valet too? Sort of those door dings and provide it with a full tank of fuel? And Of course it goes without saying they should providing the obligatory 6 month no quibble warranty in line with the Consumer Rights Act
If it was anybody's responsibility, it would be the insurance company as it is their asset, however if you want to go around demanding they get specialised staff and equipment to restamp chassis numbers you are welcome to only bid on vehicles that meet that requirement, but given there will be a que of people without that sort of demand willing to take the vehicle "as is" (which is almost certainly a T & C of the auction house you are using) for £50 less than what you paid, its unlikely to be on interest to them either.
Be grateful that the cars you've purchased have only had stickers - I've seen whole sections of chassis/suspension turrets be cut out and replacements pigeon s
t welded in place with the cloned ID before on stolen recovered cars before. Its part and parcel of buying vehicles from trade orientated auction houses, if you're not happy, the likes of cazoo and carwow will be happy to provide you with a no quibble experience with all the come back and prep you seemingly desire.

The police are too busy harassing YouTubers like Koleeberks or Auditing Britain, for no reason or gain. I’ve lost all sympathy for the police when they waste their time on them, those cops can’t be that overstretched if they stand in the carpark for 30 minutes for no reason.Edited by WorldBoss on Sunday 1st May 23:13

He's talking crap.License (number) plates are issued by the DMV to the owner. When the owner sells the car, he takes off the plates and puts them on the replacement. And plates are issued by the State, you don't have them made so there are no cloned plates.
And when we recovered a stolen car that's had the VIN number tampered with, it's returned to the owner. We have nothing to do with replacing VIN numbers, that's up to the owner to jump through hoops.

Searched and watched segments of a couple of random uploads from each on Youtube.
What a pair of utter bellends,
It's hard to fathom how there could be a more pointless way to spend your time than filming stuff from a pavement in an attempt to elicit a response from bored people doing their own job who couldn't really give a toss.
Life is pretty short. Go out, travel, meet people, eat new food, shag around, go outside of your comfort zone.
Guarantee that no-one on their death-bed has ever said "I wish I spent more time inside my house or filming people for no real reason".

Its all a flash in the pan anyway, in another year or so 99% of police will finally be educated in the best way to deal with these morons (because dont get me wrong a lot of police are not the smartest cookies) and they will have to find something else to "audit".
