I keep seeing news articles suggesting heatwaves are the new normal (I hate that phrase), and that British infrastructure can’t cope in the heatwaves we are having as it wasn’t designed for such deadly heat.

Since when was two days of decent weather in Summer considered a heatwave?

In the West Mids it hit highs of about 25°C, in West Wales it was roughly 20°C, yet there was advice poured out on how to cope in the heat rofl

Well, it was about 8-9 hours in duration here. It nearly broke me but I'm still standing.

I think we'll know when a true heatwave hits. it certainly ain't no joke in quite a bit of Europe right now but maybe that's the almost norm.

For a nation with probably the worlds most boringest weather we do seem to like talking about it a lot.

We could do with some tornadoes and firestorms to spice things up a bit.

Only when you go elsewhere do you realise that we are truly blessed to have the climate we have. A lot of the rest of the Earth's weather is flat out nuts.

You would think people would welcome a few days of nice weather!

Today it's damp and a lot cooler, saves me watering the garden I suppose...

I used to live in South West France back in 2001. It hit 40°C on the day of a trial rugby game to play for the local professional side, not a cloud in the sky. I forgot my sun cream and earned the nickname “le homard” as I was so severely burned hehe I ended up sleeping in a cold bath as I was in so much pain rofl

It hit 32°C in the south east (more in London I believe) and was hot for several days. And it’s not even summer yet.

This country is a joke. 25 is seen as a heatwave it’s cold today! 30 is near death. FFS get a grip 40+ and let’s start taking about the heat.

One day when it felt too hot (Friday) and apocalyptic headlines follow.

Yes it was a little warm for that one day, but now it is going to go back to the usual British summer weather for the next week or so.

The reality of global warming for Britain is likely to be a damp squib for the doomsters. It will be a bit hotter and we may have some more days in summer when it gets a bit too hot. We should also be able to make more wine.

For the UK I would guess that many people would consider anything about 20-27C would be pleasant and enjoyable. About and above 28-ish seems to be getting a bit unconfortable for many (subject to humidy, wind speed etc).

Seems heatwave is defined as

“ A UK heatwave threshold is met when a location records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold. The threshold varies by UK county. ”

Point is it might sell a few dozen more newspapers so they will make a mountain out of it.

Plus we can all go around calling it 'Climate Change' or some other bks.

It’s heat relative to the expected conditions at that time of year.

Obviously in Australia in summer this wouldn’t be classed as a heatwave for them. but in the U.K. in june it might be.

You are living in the wrong country then biggrin

I expect the occasional hot day and, during summer, many pleasantly warm days.

Whether it’s caused by climate change or Boris or immigration or whatever doesn’t matter I’m just explaining why temperatures in parts of the U.K. are classified as a heatwave well before it’s “40+”

Perhaps you’re suggesting the definitions of heatwave in the U.K. have been created to boost climate change propaganda or something?
