In an era when we can learn almost anything from the internet but spend more time looking at memes and arguing, this seems oddly wholesome and quaint, if a disaster that it should be needed at all.

When I was out there in 2008/2009 I always thought they all needed TV to see more of the outside world or be too busy to scrap each other.

I remember reading about radio serial that was broadcast to Afghans by the Beeb.

Each episode ended on a cliffhanger which is 100% alien to their storytelling tradition so they kept asking if the show was broken.

Imagine reading an article about trying to help give children who are being denied an education an opportunity to learn and that ^^ being the best thing you could think of to say.

I’m disappointed that’s the response to my request, if you feel strongly enough to moralise on the issue you really should take the opportunity to expand and justify.
For me it’s political interference from a foreign National broadcaster. That’s not saying that I agree with the situation and policies of the Taliban.

I'm with you on this (though like you I find the Taliban repugnant). It's akin to a form of modern day imperialism, and I thought we were over that.

I think that after occupying a country for 20 years before just fking off and leaving them to it, we have some duty to try and improve the lives of the people we left in chaos.

Not everyone has unfettered access to high speed internet.

Especially countries like Afghanistan where even if they had the infrastructure (they don't) it would be heavily restricted by their oppressive government.

Terrestrial and satellite TV broadcasts only require simple receivers and can't be blocked or easily interfered with.

Absolutely, we should never have imposed ourselves into their politics from the outset.I completely disagree, we should discontinue meddling in other Countries affairs, and it’s not just from twenty years ago, have a look at the history.
