"Ms Dorries had been expected to be nominated for an honour and to stand down to accept the peerage. However, later reports suggested she had been dropped from the list to avoid triggering a by-election".

You have to laugh.

It's always the enablers and lickspittles that come out worst in the end.

Someone missed a trick here - she should have been given an absolute cast-in-stone guarantee that her name would appear in Bojo's vetted Resignation Honours list to prevent this sort of premature flounce, and then when the Honours list is published and it turns out she's been awarded the British Empire Medal (Second Class) rather than the Peerage she was so obviously craving *then* watch the silly mare tie herself in knots trying not to look disappointed.

Sorry that's almost all of them. Show me one who is competent. Ian Hislop regularly has a field day on them especially in enquiries etc.

Didn't she try to get the rules changed to stop a by-election having to be called?

I had my labour candidate knock on my door this morning. I didn’t quite congratulate her for ~16 months time, but I think she should feel quietly confident.
